Hey Carson, I'd like to see the car in person, when are we going to get the Atlanta and people in Tenn together? You going to the thing in Nashville?

Sounds like the car is coming together nicely, although are we ever really done?

Sounds good Carson. Have you moved to Ward's house yet? If you have, I'll have to swing by and check out the progress on the beast.

no, my high beams are not wired yet, i'm waiting for the relay... The HID bulb is only on the right side while the H9 bulb is on the left. I can literally drive with 100% better lighting on just ONE HID bulb. When both H9's were installed, the lighting was a huge improvement, but now with HID's it's about as much improvement over the H9's as the H9's were over stock.

Light kit day pic

Just installed HID lights on the pop up stock lenses.
I don't like the beam pattern so I will purchase a 4 projector flush type from the thread pics.

Question? Can you go back to pop up later when you install the flush light kit.

Also how much cutting is involved. Does it weaken the front structure?

Is the fitment perfect?

Still waiting for good daylight pictures of the kit on a car that isn't black...

I heard a rumor that the Lexan covers had to be bent/formed to the contour of the pod and were not pre-formed. Is this true?

True. Flat, thin, somewhat flexible. I was thinking polycarbonate (they are at home though...so I can't look to see now).

I thought you had a genuine RE kit with Hella 90mm lights... what happened?

No, not easily. When you use an RE Amemiya or Rotary Extreme light kit you'd have to weld back the piece that needs to be cut out in order to remount the stock lights.

Quite a bit, and somewhat. I was told "not to jump to conclusions", but the Rotary Extreme kit seems to require removing at least as much metal as the RE Amemiya kit it is modeled after. And still uses the same lousy mounting scheme.

Here's a picture of what you'll have to cut out...

In the picture below, just to the right of the light, you'll see the three holes you have to drill to mount one of the brackets that holds the pod in place.

Another bracket is on the opposite side, which is hard to get to and requires removing the wheel well liner to access. A third bracket attaches to the first 10mm bolt on the front of the fender rail.

Is the fitment perfect?
Looks like it fits pretty well... but so did the RE Amemiya kit.

Do you have day pics of install?

I've seen these pics before on Extrems web site.
I would like to see another to see consistent installes for varying people.

Do you have to remove front bumper cover. I hate to take mine out. I just installed the 99spec front cover. I just hate to take it apart again if I go the same route.

Is there anyone out there that makes a direct bolt on no cutting kit?

No, removing the front bumper is not necessary, but you will have to remove both plastic wheel well liners to be able to fasten the bracket on the fender side of the pods.

C-West (discontinued) and East Bear. The Run Racing kit requires a new bumper, and I'm not sure if there are other modifications required. There were rumors that Mazdaspeed was also developing an HID sleek light kit, but I have heard that the project was cancelled. Unfortunately, there aren't really that many options.

The RE kit does not have the fender wheel mount because he said it was a pain to deal with. He has no problems with not having this mount. I never had any problems getting to the RE Amemiya mount though ....

I'm waiting to get my shells back from the painter. I'll take a pic of the metal I cut out. Chuck will even tell you he did a hack job cutting the metal out. Mine is a little neater. Chuck also had to cut more material out to fit the HID as shown above. The Rotaryextreme kit is just as good or better than the RE Amemiya kit. It has better lighting and a cheaper price.

One last comment on the Lexan covers. The RE Amemiya kit had real thick Lexan which was hard to work with. I found out much later on that you can heat Lexan in an oven to make it easier to install. However Chuck uses thinner Lexan that is easier to bend and I see it molding easily. I don't expect the thinner Lexan to crack either.

With the bumper off, you wouldn't have trouble. Most people don't want to pull the bumper to mount a light kit, though. Nor should they have to.

I'm already well aware of exactly how much metal must be removed to mount the RE kit. See attached picture...

No arguments there. It is cheaper, and it does have better lighting. But it also shares the same cheesy bracket system and still requires cutting the car.
