Just got a Viper Alarm for the FD

well i'm gonna complain in this thread so thats just a heads up.
i just got the viper eps 800 which is a pretty good alarm. i didn't get the version with remote start, because i found it to be pointless if i'm warming the car from start, and have to press the accelerator so the rpm's don't idle so high from cold. anyway that's not my point, so aside from the car not having power locks (which I thought it did but its just a switch) i have to set the alarm AFTER my turbo timer is done. so i guess what i'm wondering is there any alternatives? I heard that i could put an "actuator" or something so that i get power from the locks? I don't know, i just ran by that when someone was talking about it. also, can i should i set my turbo timer for less time then 2 min? (presently set at that) hmm...i think thats it...what do you guys with alarms do? thanks

Dan,
My car came with a Viper alarm. I have no idea which model it is. The remote has four buttons. Anyways, I set my alarm while the turbo timer is still running and have no problems; however, I'm not 100% sure my alarm is actually functioning. It doesn't seem particularly sensitive. I can pull open on the door handles with it armed and it won't go off. The only time it has gone off is when it was armed and I closed the hatch. It is supposed to have a starter disable feature; however, the remote wouldn't turn the alarm off one time and I simply put the key in the ignition and started the car. The alarm continued to go off, but the car started up fine. I don't know what's up. I haven't been able to get in touch with the previous owner to get more info. I know that I haven't been of much help. I hope you get your problems figured out.

Alan

BTW, What part of Chicago are you from? I used to live out in the NW suburbs (Schaumburg). I never saw an FD in person until I moved back to Florida.

yeah to get the power locsk you have to have a shop install door lock actuators for you. Iw as tlaking to an audio shop that does alot of the alarms good alarms around here, and he was telling me to get it to work with a turbo timer he had to wire in some chain of relays or something. The guy siad it was alot of work. Or you can get a clifford alarm. Some of them have build in turbo timers.

It really isn't that much work to get the alarm to work around the turbo timer. My car audio shop called up the guys at DEI and the techs faxed a wiring diagram over. My problem was that the alarm (which was also a viper 800) would automatically unlock the doors after the car turns off. I'm assuming that you're running into the same problem. The installer simply said that in wiring the car differently, it would 'trick' the alarm in thinking that the car was off all the time.
The only trouble I have w/ my alarm now is that the proximity sensor always sets the alarm off because of the heat that generates around the car. If you were thinking about getting a prox sensor, I'd reconsider and just get the thing that detects a window break or something.
Hope this helps --- Jason

mine i suppose doesn't really trick it that much, but the thing is i have to wait till my turbo timer turns off before i can set the alarm. the alarm won't set until the car is fully off...i don't know if thats how they installed or whatever (not a wiring kind of guy) but i don't really mind. i suppose at this point i can just lock the doors manually and go away, then just arm the alarm 2 minutes later.

btw: i live in skokie, 30 min. south of schaumburg...i rarely ever see fd's around here, but I guess theres a lot after browsing through the forum

LOL I have a gretty turbo time that runs from 1 min to 5 depending in how hard the cars been run. I have a phython ( like the viper ) installed at CPS (589 Rohnert Park Expy W, Rohnert Park, CA 94928 Phone: (707) 588-9300 ) do the install work. He has it so the car is armed and locked ( by the remote ) while the time is still doing its count down. After the car shuts down the alarm then sets the bump sensor. This way I can drive up to a location turn off my car ( turbo timer running ) get out arm and lock my car ( while the cars running ) and that car is safe. We have tested the system and it works..

BTW the guys at the shop loved doing this.. they said it was one of the funnest systems they hav had to install ( LOL right )

now Im updating the system with the little remote that alerts you to and one missing with your car. same shop will be doing the work

hmmm yeah ill have to look into it. my buddy whose certified by circuit city installed the work, and hes pretty familiar, i don't think he realized that the turbo timer would affect how the alarm armed, disarmed and stand by...anyway im sure its an easy fix for him..thanks for all the info everyone...

In regards to "Tricking" the alarm into thinking the car is off all the time, see this from Rob Robinnette.

I know the after-market alarm won't be the exact same wire colors and such, but the theory is the same.

i installed the viper 800esp about 2 years ago on my fd . from what i remember, i did not used the ignition trigger wire. the starter disable still works. my alarm works when the turbo timer is on and the car is running, you have to adjust the shock sensor sensativity. i also installed the door actuator. i tapped into the stock alarm kill wire which runs from the door lock( green wire, i really cant remember)
