should be straight drop in...just note the way you take the stock out...and reverse the process

remove old one and put in new one.

sorry couldn't resist.

twist off shifter
pull up console
unplug connectors (look for them)
remove four corner bolts on seal
pull off rubber boot on shifter base
put bushing on new shifter (if didn't get new one)
replace everything you just removed

It's really easy don't be scared.
1) remove the stock shift *** and plastic console around the shifter.
2) remove the rubber insulators that just slide up the shifter, then un bold the rubber cover over the shifter.
3) unbolt the shifter it's self and remove carefully to keep it from dripping on anything. (you might need to tap it with a hammer a couple times to get it loose)
4) look at the bottom of the stock shifter and remove the plasctic bearing at the bottom and put it on the new gotham shifter.
5) If needed top of the fluid in the trans case.
6) reasemble the same way but you might want to reseal the gotham shifter with some silicone or somthing.

Any special kind of silicone i should use? I also picked up the aluminum bottom bushing from mazda trix. I read it should help with the rattling and vibration. With this peice do i still need to silcone and if so do i silicone both sides? Sorry for all the questions but i just dont want to mess up.

You don't have to seal the shifter at all, it will just keep some of the heat from coming through your tranny tunnel and it will ensure that the shifter doesn't leak. Yes if your gonna seal it seal all around the shifter like the stock one was.

Maybe because you posted yours at 1am EST. Give it time.

Also, nice little write up overkill. I plan on picking one up soon and will keep your write up book marked just in case I run into a snag.

Two mistakes to avoid :

1) The bottom of the shifter is (should be) immersed in a pool of gear oil. Be careful when pulling and prying the old shifter off. I managed to splash oil all over my interior when it suddenly popped loose.

2) Do not try to reuse the 4 stock bolts. I don't know if your shifter came with bolts, but the Gotham shifter's base is significantly thicker than the stock shifter's, and the stock bolts end up only getting a thread or two into the transmission. I recommend allen-head bolts, as it can be a real pain to get a socket or wrench on a couple of them otherwise.
