Just bought an Rx7

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1870924476

I checked the carfax, and it was salvaged at 5K miles. I am going to call and find out why. The guy I bought it from said it has NO body damage ever. I am thinking it was stolen or something. Anyway, i know its an auto, but what can i do to free up some hp? I just wanted to show off my new baby, and I plan on making it look a lot better too.

Well it seems like it would take a lot to total a FD with only 5K miles. It was probably within the first year of it's life so it was probably worth ~$30K.

Flood damage, theft, engine fire (would have to be a big fire) could total it out. Theft would total it out surprisingly quick. Door panels list @ ~$1100 each, seats are probably $1800 each, etc. Adds up quick. Steal the interior and it is totaled, even if it is worth $30K.

For some HP add a DP, cheap ~$200-300, cat-back exhaust another ~$400. Those mods will probably add 20hp. Auto trans can't really hold a lot of power, they also have LOTS of lag coming out of the hole. I'd REALLY consider getting a 5spd diff to help get it moving. Auto diff is 3.90 vs. 4.10 for the 5spd's . You should be able to buy one for $250-300.

Those three mods should cost around $1000 and really change the personality of your car. Please consider doing things like flushing all of the fluids (coolant, trans, diff, engine oil, brake fluid), change fuel filter, put on quality brake pads, get an alignment, check suspension bushings, etc. Do this "maintenance" type stuff before you add any power.

Cool Jeff, the guy said it comes with carbon fiber pads. I am a true car enthusist by nature. I have owned countless mustangs and even a camaro (dont hold that against me please!) and have allways wanted a 3rd gen. I do all my own work, so hopefully if/when the time comes to redo the engine, Ill do that also. Time wil tell though. If I didnt have so many other cars at the moment, I would have had more money to spend and bought one with a clear title, lol. Here are 3 cars I own now. You said about changing the rear diff, it wouldnt be better to just do a 5 speed swap? Also, what can be upgraded to increase the power capacity of the auto? Stall? Shift kit? I know little about these cars, so bear with me. Also, what about going sequential? My buddy has a VR4, and I absolutly love that thing! Any car that comes with TT from the factory should be in a museum!
ps, the blue vert now is 5 lug, and has 94-95 chrome tri-bar wheels(17") Just done the conversion today!

Hey slither. A company called Level 10 used to upgrade the auto trans but I don't think they're in business anymore.

Converting to a 5spd would be a great idea, the mods I mentioned would be compatable with a 5spd conversion anyway.

V8's don't get a lot of respect here, but I respect them 100%. It is just being a rotary underdog, they are the target to hit so that is what everyone is aiming for. Nice 'Stangs.

Going sequential? Did you mean non-sequential? NOT A GOOD IDEA IMHO, no extra power and terrible lag with an auto trans. The upside is you lose a lot of the vacuum lines. It's been my experience that the stock system works fine (I've had 12 FDs). If you want to go non-seq then go single turbo. There will be MUCH debate over this topic.
