just bought an fd and having some issues..

i just picked up an fd this weekend..the add coolant light comes on but only at night...i go to work..get out at 11 and it comes on then goes away in a couple of minutes..wake up next moring and start up the car and it doesn't come on for the rest of the day until later after work again..weird..the car doesn't burn any coolant cause i can't smell it or see any smoke at all..and the car is kinda hard to start sometimes..it seems like it's flooded out just like what my 240 does on startups..it stumbles until it warms up then drives fine..

The coolant light means your coolant level is low. If you haven't already, fill it up.

1. Find a good rotary shop near you just in case you need one in the future. Most regular mechanics don't know how to work on these cars.

2. Go the FAQ sticky and read it. There is lots of good info in there - like on how to bleed your coolant system.

3. Did you have the motor compression tested before you bought it? If not, consider doing so ASAP. A how-to is in the FAQ sticky.

woah this is my old car, first off i just recently changed the plugs... and have NEVER had a starting problem EVER, what plugs did you replace them with (saw you did this in a previous post)

about the coolant light, is it leaking anywhere?!?! i daily drove this for 4 months without a coolant light once

i did replace the water pump and tstat and various gaskets in that area and i topped it off / bled it, but i also used to remove the neck cap in the morning and it was always full, did it spring a leak on the way home?

also on compression, i never checked it with a gauge but it holds 19-20" @ 750rpm so i never even considered checking it, always ran great with 15-16mpg city

still holds 19-20 vacuum...i replaced plugs with the stock ngk plugs...i dont see any leaks at all or smell coolant burning..it'll come on for a few mins then go away..kinda weird...and the light only comes on at night time..well gonna take a look at it this weekend..other then that it runs smooth...i guess time for compression test and see if any vacuum lines came loose only the way..but it drove fine all the way home...ohh..and i've constantly checked the coolant level and it's always above the coolant sensor too...i'll update on what i find..and i love it so much that i'm gonna find the cause and fix it..hehe

check the wire for the sensor, or maybe the sensor is broken?
