Joining the R&R list

I just started the process of removing my engine and turbos and will be installing a streetported reman and stage 2 BNR's along with a lightweight flywheel, PFC, and silicone hoses. I've been searching and found a lot of helpful tips and some write-ups, but just to be safe, are there any parts I should replace while I have it out. And I thought a saw a write-up with some good pictures a before but can't find it now, so if anyone has some they could share I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

Are you referring to cleaning them, or replacing them? I plan on keeping the boost down to 10psi so I don't think I need bigger ones...yet.

i would put in a clean set. have yours sent out to RC Engineering.

Who knows yours might be fine, I don't know how many miles are on your car. Just a suggestion, especially if you have 80k+ miles on the original set.

My car has 98k on it so they probably do then, should I go ahead and get 1300cc secondaries or just keep them stock for now, beause I want to take my time and do it right, but the more money I have to spend, the longer it's going to take me

once you go to larger injectors, you need some sort of stand alone ECU. The PFC for example. but then you also should get a better fuel pump. then you have to get the car tuned, the list goes on.......you get the picture.

if you are only going to run 10 psi and are happy with it, then you have no need for larger injectors. You could send them out to be cleaned and be done with it.

However, if you plan on modding your car in the not so distant future, and you can afford to drop some cash now, you could go with the things mentioned above, plus the usual mods and have a VERY fun car that is capable of beating cars costing 10x as much.

I vote for scenario 2, but it's not my money

EDIT: oops, i just re-read your original post. You are already half way there!

Change the fuel pulsation damper, coolant lines, gaskets, o-rings.

I vote for scenario 2 too, but my loan was only for $5K, and I'm gonna be spending about $7K, so turning up the boost has to wait till I can afford the rest of the goodies

Well, I've gotten pretty close to pulling the engine out of the car, and I've also decided to get some more parts. I'm going to go ahead and upgrade my secondary injectors and fuel pump, get a downpipe, pulsation damper, all coolant hoses, upgraded clutch, and of course I've got to pick up some gauges. I know I'm getting a boost and water temp, and probably a fuel pressure soon after. The cost is definatley going up. I was originally planning on about 6K, but now it's up to around 8K and growing. My problem is I really need to get it tuned with all the mods I plan on istalling. I haven't looked into that too much because my mod list has grown since the start of my project. If there's anyone close by that could help me that would really be helpful. Other than that I'm gonna start checking out the PFC forum.

look into new motor mounts also. might as well throw some new ones in while you have the motor out.

might not hurt to inspect your engine grounds also.

I had thought about that, just forgot to mention it. Also, will I need a boost controller, or will the pfc work fine.

I know someone has some info. Also, does the pettit dp have the O2 sensor bung, or would I have to drill my own, I've searched unsuccessfully. Thanks for any help

pettit DP has the bung. My stock O2 sensor fit right in, no problem.

While in there, I would replace the studs and nuts that hold the turbos tot he exhaust manifold. If you're adventursome, you might try soldering the grounding connectors to their respective wires for better connection as these tend to corrode. There's probably more, but I'll have to collect my thoughts after I R&R my own. Might even start up this weekend!

Thanks, I'm hoping to have my engine out this weekend if I get home from work with enough daylight left

Yeah, it took me a couple evenings to pull mine. I left the tranny in the car due to space considerations. For some stupid reason, I left the DP on as I pulled the engine. Dumb idea. Quite a fight. The only other fight was to pull the ECU harness. Gross. I unbolted the ABS mounting bracket to get some room, but ultimately just pulled REAL hard once the connectors were through.

Did you a R&R video? I haven't gotten one yet, but was looking to get one. Does anyone know if they're available on dvd?
