Greetings 3rd Gen Owners,

I have recently stepped into the "big leagues" after owning two FB's, and being tired of getting romped on by everything and their grandmother I decided to step it up a notch and just recently purchased this vehicle.

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ighlight=mpfcc

Now as that post explain the car needs a tune, the previous owner had gone to get it tuned but was running lean into boost and it was narrowed down to a paper LIM gasket that has since been replaced. Now that I own the car and I have an appointment to get the car tuned by a local performance shop I would like some opinions on the car and any suggestions you all may have. Also what kind of power should I be expecting out of this thing? Here is a list of modifications.

that seems to be a well built car. This shop that you are going to let tune it, are they an experienced rotary shop or are they just a general auto shop? I wouldn't trust someone who isn't a rotary tuner to tune my FD. As you probably know, rotaries are very different in all aspects of tuning than piston motors.

I also wouldn't think that an intake leak could make you run lean. Remember there is positive pressure in the IM when you are boosting, so that would have to either have been a bad tune causing him to run lean or possibly the fuel system is over worked.

The fuel system looks good, but there could be a malfunction somewhere. The pump may not be pushing enough fuel or the injectors could be dirty or broken..

+1......great looking car and good luck with it. As far as power output, you never know, until you actually strap that thing down and tune it! once again, great looking ride and keep us posted on the dyno numbers.

depending on how much boost you feel like running....400-450rwhp.

i have a T04R as well and just put down 308rwhp on 9lbs (running on the wastegate spring). i need to finish upgrading ignition and fuel and then im shooting for 400+

I would say around 400 I had the same setup as you minus the Twin Power and the FMIC

They are not a rotary specific shop but the owner says he has tuned FD's before and their shop used to own one several years ago. If anything I just want something that wont be pouring through it. The fuel smell is really bad and the mileage is horrendous, I went through half a tank of gas going maybe 35-40 miles. I need it tuned well enough to eventually make the 4-5 hour trip out to charlotte/kannapolis NC where there are several rotary dedicated shops.

not sure exactly where jacksonville is in relation to charlotte .. but you need to come done here and let bryan and the guys at Rotorsports racing tune it. That is who I am getting to tune when i am done.

I also had that set-up previouse to the current and put down 392 and change. Can't remember the boost level. Very nice clean car.

I have been sending PMs back and forth with Bryan at Rotorsports for awhile but its the fact that I am not sure that the car will be able to limp its way to Charlotte. It can get up to 80-90mph without getting into the boost no problem but I would have to stop for fuel so many times it would be a very expensive trip. I will see what these other folks think they can do with the car for now.

It wouldn't be good to drive the car very far on a bad tune. There are some tuners that you can pay to fly out to you and do the tune at your house, too. I'd be very wary of a shop that isn't rotary specific. Especially if you don't know any of the cars that they've tuned in the past.

Well they want to look at the car for a few days before they do anything to it so that "someone elses problem doesnt become their problem" Ive heard some pretty decent things about the shop even if they are not rotary specific. I will let my intentions as to what I want done very clear.
