JHB Performance Oil Metering Conversion Kit

Anyone have this installed, and can give a review for a 3rd gen with stock turbos ?

I've read the description carefully, and it sounds like it blocks of the feed to the STOCK OMP, and then plumbs in a different supply line.
Can anyone confirm ? (I did send an email to them).

It's about half-the-cost of the Rotary Aviation one, which I believe has to be modified to work with the stock turbos.

Thanks,

:-) neil

=========
Oil Metering System

We have designed a system that allows the use of the stock oil metering pump (OMP) to inject premium 2 stroke oil into the engine. Good quality 2 stroke oil is designed to burn clean and properly lubricate the internals of the combustion chamber in ways that far exceed conventional motor oils. This system allows the use of synthetic oils in the oil pan since this oil is no longer being injected into the engine. This kit includes an engine oil supply block off place, an oil fitting for the OMP, an oil line and an oil reservoir.

I would email Marc at JHB. He's a helpful guy and I spoke with him about their cermet housings.

Please let us know what he says. I'd be interested in this kit as well.

honestly it probably is, but for $45 and have the liability of this critical engine component lie on someone else, you might as well pay it.

Why do you say that? The one I have is a quality unit from what I can tell. Yeah, I may have to clock the omp, but to me that is no big deal. (I also may have paid only $70 or so, I don't really remember)

Clock the omp - What does that mean?

It's not as easy as it sounds. You have to hack/mod the OMP so it will clear the stock twins.

but its also not as hard as you make it sound.

It requires some modifications, and quite frankly... I think the method presented in this thread would be easier overall... however, modifying the omp to fit whilst not modifying any of the passages seems more advantageous if you decide to change setups.

bumping this up. Neil, did you ever hear from them?

I never realized that the RA adapter required you to modify the OMP when using the stock twins as I will be.

You should pick up the phone and call before saying a business is closed.

Marc is most certainly still in business. The OMP system is also still available for purchase. I will be getting mine soon.

Review

So I just installed this on my new rebuild.

What's in the kit: In short, this kit gives you everything you need to do what was described in this thread.

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=585049

It includes a thin block off plate that sits between the engine and the OMP to block oil flow, a windshield washer tank (~ 1 qt) with a deactivated pump, a hose (which looks like tygon), and a fitting to screw into the OMP housing to feed 2 cycle to the OMP directly.

Install: To install the kit you place the block off plate between the engine and the OMP with gasket sealer on the engine side (the OMP o-ring seals the other side of the plate). You also have to drill the OMP housing and tap it for the M10 x 1.0 fitting (obviously this is done with the OMP off since you'll have to cleaning out the OMP due to metal shavings). Once the OMP is mounted you simply run the hose from the OMP fitting to the reservoir (which must be mounted higher than the OMP to allow gravity feed). You do not have to drill the block to make an oil return like it says in the thread I linked, since the oil flow is blocked by the gasket sealer.

Impressions/Opinions: Things started out on a bad note since 2 of the kits apparently got lost on their way to me from Canada. This caused me to have to shell out for faster shipping (instead of free shipping) to meet my rebuild deadlines. To start, I had to grind out some of the bolt holes and the hole for the raised center piece on the OMP since the plate didn't fit or line up out of the box. Not a huge deal but come on. I also had to trim the plate because it interfered with things on the block and wouldn't lay flat. I have my doubts on whether the supplied hose will survive on the long term parked 4-5 inches from the turbos. I tried to change the hose to teflon-PFA (due to the higher temp rating) but the adapter fitting has very little room between the barb and the base requiring you to use very flexible hose to get a good seal. The teflon-PFA was too rigid and would just come right off even with a zip tie. In the end, I ended up just sleeving the supplied hose with a coolant hose to protect it.

Conclusion: If I were to do it again, I'd just do it myself. The plate itself is not complex and with the modifications I had to do to get it to fit it wouldn't have taken me that much longer. For the fitting I'd buy something with a long 1/4" barb so that I could use some of the teflon-PFA from McMaster. The reservoir itself seems fine but we'll see how it likes the rotary furnace over the long haul.

Did you take any pictures of the plate? I'm also interested to see what shape container they gave you and where you mounted it. Show us some pictures!

I didn't take a picture of the plate before install, but it's shaped exactly like the mounting surface of the OMP with holes drilled for the 3 mounting bolts and a larger hole to fit around the raised section in the middle.

I can take a picture of the reservoir tonight but it's a simple rectangular reservoir. I mounted it on the intercooler side of my damian-esque intake heatshield (once I secured the flimsy heatshield with some iron of course).

I have installed the rotary aviation adapter on my car with factory twins. It was not too bad of an install but it puts the pump right next to the turbo's oil line. I felt this was too risky and I happened to have some exhaust heat wrap so I wrapped the oil line and over the oil metering pump. I was not able to keep the oil metering pumps factory heat shield either.

All and all I figured the heat wrap would do the job just fine since my buddy who has it on his down pipe can drive around for an hour and still rest his hand on his down pipe with this on there.
