jdm specs?
I purchased my first rx7 few months ago. It's 1994 with about 66,000 miles on it. The only thing thats really wrong with it is someone thought it could float or thought it was a submarine one of two. Anyway to look at the car inside and out you would never know that it was in water to the bottom of the dash, accept when you look at the fuse box, wiring connectors, relays, and so on it's very green and scary. The funny thing is all the accessories worked, but the engine and the dash cluster thats another story. In my search for wiring, fuse boxes, control modules, and one very very scary call to the mazda dealer (I couldn't believe what they wanted just for a dash harness) I came across a good deal on a jdm half cut.
The front clip is cut right behind the seats, and has everything except hood, fenders bumper, and headlights. This should take care of all my electrical issues and might even lead to a right hand drive conversion. Ive been told that there are some differences between the American and Japanese versions of the car from different wiring, ecms, turbos, and so on. Can anyone tell me what the differences are, what years they are applied to, and are there any advantages to the jdm equipment? Also, before get in anyfurther over my head does anyone know of problems I might run into swapping everything over? The jdm front I purchased is believed to be 94 also. If anyone has any info I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
Rob

all the wiring connectors that come from the back off the jdm car are different than the US wiring connectors and are routed different it would be a lot easier to get a US wiring harness from ebay and just plug everything in and be done with it.

yeah it would be damn near impossible to use a RHD harness on a LHD car, unless drilling new holes in the firewall and lengthening wire apeals to you...what did mazda what for a new harness? $800?

My local mazda dealer quoted me $1498 for just the dash harness. I'm really starting to wonder if they looked up right harness. The funny thing is I didn't pay much more than that for the half cut, which has an engine, tranny, all the accessories wiring computer, and so on. As long as I don't run into any major snags I plan on doing the right hand drive conversion. I bought the car for just for something to play with, and I'm diesel technician by trade. I've worked on piston engines for many years, but I have always had an interest the rotary engine. It's a project for me and it wouldn't be any fun if it was easy. Besides everyone I know says that all of the rx7s that they have seen in the area that I live in, could be easly counted on one hand. None of which were LH drive. When you say that all the wiring connectors that come off the back are different are you refering to the connectors that hook into the harness that runs back to the taillights? If so is it the connectors themselves that are different or are they just wired differently? I have yet to go and pick up the half cut I've purchased. It will probably be a couple of weeks before I can get it, so I don't know what any of the connectors look like. I do know that the rear harness does run all the way around the rear of the car and everything is backwards from left to right with the jdm front. I was hoping the connectors would be the same and I could just route the harness backwards. Then just flip af few terminals around so that LH and RH turn signals wouldn't be backwards. I really do appreciate everyones input.
Thanks

where did you get your front clip from??? I'm talking to Michael from Jarco and he is trying to get 3-4k from me for a front clip. If I can get mine for 2k I'll personally send you a bottle of hennessy.
