JDM HEAT LIGHT - Let me explain!
ok, so, my car starts and idles fine - smooth as anything... no missing or anything like that. it drives at 7psi by choice and transitions fine, boosts fine.
there are no champagne bubbles, no coolant leaks, nothing.
BUT; when left sitting to idle for a while the heat light comes on (light closest to the left hand side of the steering wheel). my immediate thought was that this meant i was overheating, but that can't be it!
it can't be because all my fans come in and out exactly when they are supposed to - and the heat light on when the primary fan shuts off just doesn't make sense when i know those fans are operating fine. my water temp gauge needs replacing for a broken sender but i know those fans are fine.
all i can think is that because i don't have heatshields on my turbos currently that the engine bay is getting warm and it is being pulled in the pod intakes - would that cause an intake temp warning light?
anything else it could be?
i intend to replace the water temp sensor - but thats not the issue right now.

ok... ummmmm. the heat light i BELEIVE is the equivalent of the check engine light in non-JDM's so... using the crudest diagram i can make.
oooo STEERING oooo
......^ - this light is on - but then shuts off again

if it says HEAT on the warning light and im not mistaken its a warning light to say the CAT convertor is running to hot ( maybe its starting to fail and become clogged causing it to overheat)

Constant threat
Aren't you talking about the exhaust overtemp light? On U.S. cars it is built into the top of the tunnel, right next to the Security light. But I seem to recall that JDM cars had it in the dash(?)
If so, it is not your coolant overheating but rather your exhaust is overheating and triggering the light.
Happens a lot at idle if you happen to be running a tad rich.

I too have a JDM car with a power FC
My HEAT light is on all the time and when giving the car some boost at high revs it occasionally flashes.
My power FC commander also seems to show a sensor down.
I have a Decat tho and a EGT gauge fitted my EGT's never see about 700 degrees C though
anyone know what this is seems i have a similar problem.

The flickering is almost certainly the warning for the knock sensor - set the PFC to monitor knock (if you haven't already), and keep an eye on that when you get the flicker. If you are 100% sure that the knock level is within safe parameters, then the reading is probably false - from 'background noise' (a vibration, something loose, etc).

JDM cars had a probe actually in the main catalytic converter to monitor heat. I don't know how accurate it is, though - that could mean the cat is heading south, or the sensor is flaky. Unfortunately, we didn't have that exact system in the US, so it's not well documented on this side of the pond.
