jdm fd's

I'm going to be putting a deposit down on one later this month and hopefully have it by the time spring rolls around. I plan on going through an importer just to take the guess work out of it. I always though it would be imposible to own one at what some of them are selling for. It almost seems to good to be true to pick up an fd with 100 000km on the clock for less than 9k CDN. Some have had front end damage that have been repaired and I'm not sure how that will stack up against the out of province inspection. Some seem legit but the other prob is how well the cars been maintained. I mean you face that risk everytime someone buys a rotary as they don't know the service history or what the last owner was like with maintainence. Anyways just wanted to hear everyones opinion on it.

My opinion? I think it's pretty dumb to buy a car sight unseen. Especially one across the Pacific!

If you don't have the money to buy a decent local one then you won't have the money to replace the engine if need be or maintain it. You are trying to buying a real sports car on a budget. There are no compression tests done on the cars before they leave Japan (as far as I know) so if you buy one that is hooped then prepare to shell out some dough. Or the motor will pop within a couple of weeks and you will say that rx7's and rotories are **** and garbage. Either way good luck. BTW who are you using to import your car?

I am all for it Rad

Then i can buy a cheap shell for a winter beater.

I have had my fair share of poor experiences with jdm cars being bought sight unseen and I have no intention of doing that one again.

I agree.. if you are buying from an Importer they should have the car infront of your before you pay.... thats the way i work... why should you (the customer) stick your neck out if the thing starts to run crappy...? i would want to inspect it myself before buying if i was in your position

but i'm not in your position.. i'm in his (the importers) and still say the same thing.. let him bring it in for you.. then you look and decide... a down payment of $500-1000 i think is reaosnable if te vehicle is "speical order" but its not lots of FD's over there.. nothing makes it speical .. i'de make him bring it over..

why does every think are local ones are so much better you take a good look at the used ones out the most of them 3,4,5 owner that have been beaten to hell. I think in japen they also have a lot better rotary mechenics there then in alberta and you have to remmeber that this jdm market will die off in canada once 93 come 15 years old we can buy them from the usa alot easyer and be on the leftside. I would never have the ***** to buy a car with out looking at it first
and never buy one that was crashed fd. but a landed clean fd i would jump on. those are my thoughts and will love when i see all the rx next year.

The only way i would buy a JDM FD is if it was a 99' and newer and had less than 50K kilometers on it. I would prefer to buy a clean 2000 RZ.
