JDM FD wheels!

i'm considering these 16x8 late model jdm fc wheels:

however i do not know the weight. hopefully they would be similar to the 15.4lb usdm wheels. does anyone know the weight on these things?

What's the offset. From what I've heard you can't fit FC rims on an FD. You can fit FD rims on an FC but you need spacers.

noone thinks they'd be heavier than usdm stock wheels do they? these are the next lightest thing to ssr comps i can find but don't quite have the money to blow $1600 on wheels + more for tires.

Are you just trying to buy a second set of wheels for the track or something? I mean, why would you be looking at other wheels that are the same size as stock?

I think the later wheels are about 1LB heavier than the 93-95 wheels, nothing significant.

i drive a mr2 and thus have quite small 14" wheels, which affords me basically no tire selection. however my wheels weigh less than 15lbs each. i would like to maintain the low wheel weight, but don't have the $ to spend on the popular low weight option (ssr competitions) and honestly don't prefer the styling to the jdm FD wheels--^. the stock FD wheels are extreemly light and exactly what i'm looking for, however i like the styling of the late model jdm wheels better than their usdm counterparts.

i guess i felt a bit reluctant to mention that i don't drive a RX7, as it's a bit like walking into enemy territory (thought i might not get such a warm welcome). however, i am (as i'm sure many others here are) a sports car enthusiast and like all cars for their own unique qualities!

Those wheels aren't even good for style points IMO.

Stock 16x8 wheels weigh ~15 lbs. in the reinforced version. The 17" J-spec wheels weigh ~16.9 lbs. in a 17x8 (see pic). Those J-spec 16s at the most are probably somewhere in between but most likely weigh the same as the the 16x8s.

Eh, there's always some people like that...

If you like the styling of the 96-98 FD wheels and a 16x8 +50 offset will work on your car, I would say it's a good choice for the money.

glad to hear that the jdm wheels are as light as the usdm! i didn't realize they came in both 16" and 17" over there. what models were the 17" offered on as compared to the 16"? i'd be interested in taking a look at some info on this.

thanks!

17s were available on the high performance models from 99-02 (Type RZ/RS). They are 17x8 front, 17x8.5 rear, both +50 offset. There are both 5-spoke models as well as mesh-style by BBS. To be honest with you though, picking up even a USED set is approaching the price point of NEW SSR Comps.

In my opinion, the stock USDM wheels would be a better choice. They may not be exactly what you are looking for but you can find used sets fairly cheap (compared to the later model JDM wheels) and are lighter than hell. There are very few wheels with less weight than the stock FD wheels and they are eight inches wide to boot.

i may spring for the later model jdm, because if they are just is light, the only reason not to get them would be price, but if i'm going to have to spend the difference in getting the usdm wheels to look like the following picture then i might as well go with the look i really wanted in the first place.

i'm not normally a fan of a black wheels with a polished lip, but in this case i think i like it best.

I'd sell mine for the right price... NZ Dollar is beginning to weaken against the USD again too...

^-- those are actually for sale with tires, but are the lighter wheels and i'm afraid of them cracking. since you guys are more familiar with the FD scene than i, how common is the occurance / how prone are they to cracking?

The wheels on the red car are 17" J-spec.

The wheels which were prone to cracking were early '93 16" wheels (17" wheels were never offered on the '93 - '95 U.S. cars).
