JDM Engine swap Questions
Hello all, I am finally getting to my engine swap and have come accross a few question. Any help would be greatly appriciated. I purchased a JDM engine to swap in knowing that the Harness and the emissions would need to be swapped as well. Basically I am swapping my LIM, UIM and rats nest over to the newer engine. I am moving the LIM because the JDM model only has three Vac hoses comming out of it. I believe it is the EGR vac line that is missing. And the UIM is missing what I believe is the Double Throttle Control, PCV and a whole assembly that I can not Identify . Basically it is under the UIM on the underside. My question is this.
!. Do I have to swap both the UIM and LIM to get it to pass emissions? The amount of Vac hoses on my 93 US engine looks to be almost double that of the JDM.
Any thoughts would be appriciated.
Also I was told not to reuse the bolts on the turbos, it this true? Any Idea on a part number?

You'll need to essentially just use the short block (bare block from the "JDM") and re-use everything else from your old motor in order to pass emissions "legitimately".
As far as the bolts on the turbo assembly, yes, you have to replace them and how the hell are you swapping engines without a parts catalog? Download the catalog from www.mazdaformance.com -- and they're a great source for parts as well.

Thank you very much for the info, I was pretty sure that I was going to have to swap everything over, I just thought I would ask. And thanks for the link. I'll down load that. I basically have the engine out and about 3/4 torn down. Since I bought a long block I am tearing it down at the same time.

Alright, I have another thought. Why do I need to swapp everything? Basically as far as I can tell It is onlt ot get the EGR onto the JDM engine correct? I thought that the EGR returned unspent gas to the intake to be reused? How would this affect Emissions? I know this may sound stupid but I am just trying to get it all straight in my head. Any explanations would be helpful. thanks-
