JDM ecu

I did a few different searches and was unable to find someone say that obd1 8-bit JDM ecu will work in the 93-95 USDM rx-7.

I found posts that mentioned stuff about JDM re-mapped ecu's and such, but none of them where about whether or not the JDM 8-bit was the same as the US.

I am looking at a Mine's VX that came off a car with CB,DP, and Intake. I am guessing that this ecu may be able to handle a resonated mid-pipe and 12lbs boost possibly. I am unsure though, of Mine's stages of tune. Do they do all of their ecu's car and mod specific, or is it in stages like the petit's?

I want this ecu because it is a much greater deal than us modded ecu's I have found.

Thank's for any help or link's to site's/posts.

From what I can tell, a JDM ECU will work just fine on a US car. The only difference I can think of is they don't have EGR or AWS, so neither of those systems will work - big deal .

ROM tuning is VERY popular in Japan. You take your car to a shop, they put various mods on it, open up the stock ECU, and put a daughterboard in. They then run it on the dyno and tune everything in for the mods, burn a chip, and put it in your ECU. Some shops have "standard" ROMs for various things - like catback, intake, downpipe, 12psi, etc.

So, will it work? I'm 90% sure it will. Will it work right with your mods? Hard to say - there's a TON of these tuned ROM ECU's in Japan, and it's hard to say if it will work JUST right with your setup. I would at least have a wideband going to make sure everything is happy - it's too much to take a chance on.

Yes, i would feel much safer running a wideband to make sure the mixes are right.

Hopefully it would still pass emissions without the egr. I already have my aws tube blocked off, so that's no biggie.

THANKS FOR THE INFO.

Yeah, no probs passing emissions without the EGR. Heck, the '95s didn't even have EGR . It's only for NOx emissions. For a tailpipe test (which is what I think they have in Atlanta) you'll be just fine.

Glad to help,
Dale
