Question JB Weld to Block Off UIM

Not too sure if anyone is familiar with JB Weld..aparently they claim you can use this two part superman metal epoxy to patch a cracked engine block...I have a friend at work who says he's done it before...

My question is, do you think I can use this as a Block off for where the shaft was for the double throttle? Seems like it woul make for a much smoother flow since you can mold it in the gooey state and then let it dry...

what do you think?

If the hole isn't very big, it should be fine. I've used JB weld for quite a few things, and its great stuff.

The hole is probably a 1/4 inch in diameter...its the shaft that comes out of the UIM...the one on Robinettes site where he uses a screw and nut to block it off...

I think I am going to try it...

yeah, it'll work fine. but imo, powerwise, you're really wasting your time removing the double throttle. the restriction in the im is where the lim meets the engine. test the parts of the im on a flowbench and you'll find this part flows the least cfm. this is by far the biggest bottleneck. but, if you're doing it just to make everything simpler go ahead.

What about JB Weld only, no bolt?

I only put JB weld on it and its worked fine. I did it like 3 years ago.

By the way, I DID notice an increase in the speed of the spool up time of the boost in the UIM.

get a Earl's 1/4" pipe plug, and tape the hole for it. That shold do the trick

Or JB Weld alone would do fine.

Wont block off plates work just as well for the exterior hole?

Are you talking about the hole that is inside the manifold?

The whole hole ...don't think I will bother doing the center shaft hole...

the reason I wanted to use JB Weld is becasue it's easy, it takes the shape of anything and will make for a smother block off...on the inside it will be like there was nothing there to begin with.

search for my post Hose Job: Broke Some Stuff

then look for a photo of where Jonski tells me to remove it....there is a nice photo of it removed...

You know the big hand looking aluminum thing ontop of the engine that everyone polishes? well, they butterflies that are removed are in there...

check it out on www.rx7turboturbo.com ...Never mind, I think that site is down...anyway, search for double throttle removal and you will see what's going on...

So if it does not hold and goes in to the engine what then ? If there is a question about it you should not use it . Just thread the hole for a bolt ,screw pipe plug ,ect and smooth the inside for flow. then you know for sure. Garfinkle does this for his customers with no problems. what if he J B weld a hole for you and it sucked in ,would you be happy to have paided for a screw up ,I think not so do it right for your self. Gar has seen J B weld come loose and go in someones motor. the work was done at a mechine shop, and they had to pay for the repair.

Well, it's done and I don't think I am going to take off my UIM, dig/drill out the JB weld and then put a screw in...in the UIM is it pressure or vacuum? would it pop out or get sucked in?

Well, I think someone said as long as it's able to hold 17psi of pressure then it SHOULD be fine...I figured that I would take a chance and live on the edge...I am insane like that...I even ripped the tag off my matras yesterday.

Ummm...NO. It could actualy do both. Your engine runs off of vacuum off throttle, and boost on throttle....just look at your boost gauge!

I just tapped mine and put a bolt in it, but JB weld will work fine. Also, you could do what TTT did. That's the "pretty" way of doing it...but I'm cheap.
