Unhappy Japan to U.S. Shipping Cost

Has anyone ordered a part from Japan before?

My vendor is wanting $550 for shipping costs for a cat-back exhaust.
Before I ordered the part they said they could not quote me the shipping cost until they had received the item in the States.

Now this is the first time I've ordered a part from Japan and maybe this price is accurate... Seems a bit high to me.. Is it?

Would like to hear some opinions before I send the money threw PayPal.

Thanks,
Rob

Depends if he shipped it ems or fedex or? NO way it should be that way through ems or surface mail, but from my understanding fedex charges A LOT to ship from Japan.

it cost $850 for my seats to be shipped from japan through fedex, they got here in 4 days though. if you send stuff surface (boat) it cant be tracked and could take months to arrive. its better to pay the higher shipping costs IMO

thats why you send ems, or airmail, fedex is a ripoff from japan.

what kind of exhaust are you tring to get? most good shops can get you the a japanies manufactured part with less shipping cost.

I've purchased many parts from japan for my sti and RX7 with little added price for parts that are coming from japan.

by FedEx you mean by air?

They shipped my exhaust by water.

So $541 is too much if it was shipped by water?

so they sent it surface mail, did it take a long time? Did it ship from japan to your imported in the states then to you or from japan to you? I can understand being that high if had to be shipped 3 times instead of 2.

I was charged $25 for shipping of a computer graphics card from Hong Kong to CA. It got here in three days, including going through U.S. Customs. (U.S. portion was by USPS.) Maybe you should find a dealer in H.K.!

Ya, it was shipped from Japan to the vendor in the states, and now it is being shipped to my house.
I already paid for the shipping. Kind of had no choice anyways because I had already paid in full for the exhaust.

It should be worth it though!! I hope...

Anyone else have this Exhaust? Maybe I'll post vids if you guys are interested?

have you shipped it yet? where are you shipping it from? you COULD have the vendor ship it to my house, then i could ship it via the USPS. it would go space available.. take about 45 days but mucho cheaper (around 150 bucks)

Dude just ship it to us in Japan, and we'll ship it out to you for cheaper, directly to your door. It all comes down to the volume of sales you do w/ shipping companies. You either get standard rates (like the one you were quoted), or if you do THOUSANDS of dollars a month in shipping sales per month, you qualify for discounted shipping rates (which we do).

The exhaust came in a couple days ago.
Took almost 4 1/2 months to get here and so far it's worth it!

It appears to be very well made.
The tips are larger then I thought they'd be but I'm sure they'll look fine once it's on the car.
