i'm about to purchase a set of engine mounts from my friend's rotary shop in chiba, japan and he mentioned that there are 2 type of engine mounts for the FD3S which the brackets are made out of aluminum or steel. are the USA FD3S engine mounts in aluminum or steel?

 

I think the original versions were aluminum, but replacements are steel. I had a motor mount replaced under warranty that was steel vs. al.

so are you saying that the 93's were aluminum motor mount brackets?

 

They switched to good old steel brackets in ~95. These last much longer than the aluminum ones used on 93-94s. My mounts are in good condtion at 85k miles.

 

The original motor mounts were steel on one side, and aluminum on the other side. I think the aluminum mount was on the drivers side, but I am not certain. The reason one of the mounts was aluminum, was for weight savings. At some point, the aluminum mounts started failing prematurely, and Mazda started replacing them with steel mounts.

 

I never saw the brokend on on my R1 (93). But I can say for sure that one is aluminum and the other is steel. I can't remember which one is which though.

 

After checking, I am certain that the drivers side is the aluminum one. Mine was replaced when I had the oil pan resealed.

 

The factory aluminum mounts are junk. I have refurbished over 30 sets of stock mounts and have only found 1 that was even close to serviceable condition, let alone good condition. Of course, I guess they were sent to me because they needed refurbishing...

 

Overall...93 FD's have the Aluminum Mounts on the driver side and Steel on the passenger side?

 

Yes, but get both steel if you can.
