J-spec tail light conversion *the working thread*

I remember reading someone who did them for like $60 or something like that. Does anyone know who still does the tail light conversions? While my car is out of commission for the next week or so I would like to have it done. Any info would be appriciated.

Thanks,
Dan

Scrub,

Make sure that the circles on done on the lens of the lights and not the housing. I've seen some done on the housing of the lights and it looks very tacky.

Do it yourself...The cheapest mod I've ever done...Looks great...can't see why anyone would go spend $500 on the j-spec ones when they can do it themself. Check out my sig for a photo of it...

Ryan did my lights last year and they turned out awesome! Very fast turnaround and great price. I know he has done this conversion for a lot of forum members.

Does anyone have the J-spec ones to compare? I'm willing to buy the J-spec ones for originality. I just feel like I'm doing a cheap mod otherwise. Anyone want to fill me in? Also, the "mod" leave the lenses with the square hatching on it and it just doesn't seem to go well with the circle outlines...do the J-spec ones have that too?

Yes it's a cheap mod, but also a wise one. I did mine myself, and it's completely worth it. Saving yourself $500 over some circles is worth it. You will feel happy you did it, and it will look exactly the same.

They don't look the same, at least the knockoffs I've seen look terrible next to the real thing. Is it worth the difference in price? Probably not to a lot of people, but its easy to spot the fakes, IMO.

neofreak - Do the original jspec's have a different lens other than the square hatching lines on them? If this is the case, I would think the real ones would be worth the price as much as some of you will tend to disagree. It's like when you see a Civic or something with lens covers on it that turn the lights into circles even though you can tell that they're not meant to be circles. Who knows, I just have an eye for aesthetics.

Thanks guys!

The real lights have the same inner lenses as the American style. The only difference in the inner lenses being the circles. The outer smoked lense is slightly lighter allowing you to see the circles easier. Other then that, they are identical.

The problem with the ones I've seen are light bleeding from the edges of the circles, and at an angle you can tell that they're not perfectly round.. also, there is a vertical line between the amber and red section on the real ones, never seen it on the fakes.

Of course, other conversions might be done better, these are just the ones I've seen.

I'm pretty sure you didn't see any I did. I put a very bright light behind my lenses after I paint them, and if there is ANY light showing, more paint goes on. The circles are perfectly round too.

Vertical line? Walk outside and look at your taillights, you'll see that vertical line. It's on all the taillights, 93-95 style, or newer.
