I've been out of RX-7s for a little while, considering a comeback

I owned a couple Turbo IIs and a FD. I went on to a RX8 > 996 Porsche 911 > and practical to a Acura TSX. I recently picked up a BMW e46 M3 as a daily and am selling my TSX. I was considering looking into a FD again. I just moved down to Florida from the DC area and it seems like a more sensible place to have a sports car (also have a garage compared to a condo).

Has anything changed over the last 5 years with the cars? Any new developments in reliability upgrades, etc? I've always loved the cars, but being up in the city in a high-rise I knew I had to forget about them for a while.

Reliability has never been an issue. The issue has been with owners who abuse their cars and/or attempt to modify them without knowing the first thing about turbocharged motors.

Aside from what's been mentioned, the gap between a nice FD and an average FD has grown. Shop patiently and carefully.

Thanks for the feedback. As mentioned I was just curious of any recent developments as more years may have shed light on new R&D and more issues might be occuring as time goes on.

I keep an eye on the for sale section a lot on various sites and have noticed less and less nice FDs.

I don't think anything new has happened. Water injection has become more common even in the time I've been here. I'd recommend getting an aquamist setup with an rx7 summer. Maybe a rotary aviation adapter so you can inject premix instead of regular oil.

over the last 5 years i would have to say many are running meth injection and many more are premixing. also tuning has gotten better thus allowing for more power and engines lasting longer.

Just don't park your LS conversion near a cliff or a pier, they've been known to commit suicide.
