Unhappy intermittent boost

Ok, I thought originally i was getting a fuel cut, which i think i still do. But now when I get inconsistent boost. Sometimes all the way to 12.5, next only to 10, but it also jerks sometimes like an weird fuel cut. So obviously the acceleration is erratic as well. I know the long list of places to look, but was hoping someone could give a better place to start.

I have an M2 ECU, DP, CB, cold air.

Ack. I was extremely lucky in that the first thing I did after buying my R1 four and a half years ago was to bring her to KDR to have Dave to the ol' silicone hose zip tie job. Never had a boost problem related to the rat's nest. Now I'm running parallel BNR Stage 3s, which give me just a *little* more lag than my old setup. You might want to think about going the parallel route.....you can rig so that it's easy to swap back. I believe Rikki's site www.dontbearikki.com has a writeup.

yeah i am staying stock set for now. But i did do the whole silicone job over the winter, and it was solid. So this is something new, and i don't think related to the lines. Guessing it is a leak, bad turbo or something.

Mine was doing the same thing, I had two problems. One was that the gasket where the air pump is was leaking 30psi of exhaust back into my turbos, to fix that i had the shop replace the gasket. They also fixed some bad wires on the wiring harness which were fried. now the car runs great.

Do the non-sequential conversion and you won't ever this problem again. I was just too lazy to throughly trouble shoot my seq system. That's what I did.

On the other hand, If I could get my seq system running a perfect 14-12-14 boost pattern, I do it in a second.

have you gone through the steps listed here:
http://www.autosportracetech.com/RX-7/rx7stuff.htm ?
i think he deals with your symptoms exactly. i had a similar problem and it turned out to be a small leak in one of the solenoids coupled with a sticking actuator rod.

I have exactly your problem razerx - exactly. This started after I pulled the manifold to put in some new coils and after I pulled the y-pipe to put in a new egr. Drivin' me crazy.

Sometimes i get 5-6 libs in 1st and second and 14 in third.

Sometimes I upshift from 4th to third and get 5-7 lbs, get off the gas and come back on and get full boost. WTF!

Gotta be a hose or a gasket but you were not doing anything to your car when the problem developed.

Actually, not so strange...check out the autosportracetech.com site that everyone keeps talking about, specifically the troubleshooting page where it talks about the Turbo Control Actuator. It is controlled by two solenoids, one which gives it a vacuum and one gives it pressure. The two work in concert to cause it to move faster. According to the site, a typical problem is loss of either pressure or vacuum to that actuator (either due to a bad solenoid or a problem with the lines leading to the actuator) causing it to function, but not fast enough.
