Interior + Roll cage
Interior + Roll cage
I was wondering if anybody had full interior with an 8pt roll cage. Can you post pictures if you do? I'm wondering what needs trimmed and how you guys got the headliner back in after the cage was installed. I need to get a cage installed in mine, but I want to keep the interior as stock as possible with the least amount of trimming. I'm thinking about having Izzy Cages do it, unless you guys can recommend a better shop in the Midwest area (IA, NE, MO, MN, IL).
I'm not sure I'd see the point of trying to keep the interior with a full roll cage. I don't think you'll get a true 8 point system in the car without severely hacking up/removing the interior (at least one that is approved for competition). Are you looking for roll over protection in general or are you planning on competing with the car? I'm not sure Izzy would even attempt a full cage on a street car (i.e. trying to keep all of the interior). He does mainly pure race/competition cars. If you are just looking for roll over protection, a 4 point roll bar would be a better option (and it appears the Autopower 6 point full cage will fit with interior but it's not competition approved via NASA/SCCA).
the roll cage is to pass Nhra and ihra tech. I like the clean look of full interior with a cage weight is no issue.I know some trimming is going to be needed but I'd rather not have a gutted car again. Izzy will put a cage in a street car they will even trim and fit the interior if you want to pay them seem like great people I just don't have that kinda money so I have to have them do they tube work and fit the interior my self. Paying them to do the interior came more then double The cost of the cage

heres mine.
Car is used both on the street and the track. THIS IS A PERSONAL PREFERENCE. I advise for others not to for safety reasons. This is a choice I made. Two reasons why i kept the interior. I am to attached to the car still for me to "PROPERLY" ditch the full interior, gut doors, lexan windows etc.......to build a race car. So Since i am not ready to do so i kept the interior. Weight doesnt bother me car with me is 2910lbs and its legal in NASA ST2. Currently runs 1:24 at WSIR and 1:53 at ACS.
Custom aluminum door panels, miata handles and mechanism are done by me
leather done by Martinez upholstry in corona CA
Roll cage done by GS WERKS in palmdale
all trimmimg and fitting of interior done by me take your time do small cuts until you like the fitment

the headliner was left in everything else was removed. They welded the top bars first then built it from there down. If they are reputable roll cage fabricator they can make it happen. You will know if they are good if they have the number to one of the racing sanctions on stand bye.
I've seen this done with high-end modded cars. Check the hidden cage in full interior "Franken M3" built by Piper Motorsport near me... collaboration between one of the best fabricators around, and a high-end interior shop:

This is race car offseason in this area so his shop will be filled with cars getting prepped for the 2015 racing season. You would have needed to be scheduling with him back in the fall if you wanted something sooner. As you see from Alex's shots, do it properly you have to do something custom for the doors (which is what I was attempting to infer with the initial post). That's different than "trimming".
I was in the same boat just the other week but decided to gut the interior. Upon my research I came across Kevin Doe's cage which keeps the interior. It's worth the look:
