Interior door handle issues

Well now my drivers door will not unlock from the outside. The key will unlock the passenger door and disable the alarm, but the driver's door lock will not completely unlock. It moves it slightly, but I have to climb in the passenger side and reach over to unlock it all the way. After that it will open with the exterior handle. Any ideas?

Did the little flap over the lock fall into the hole and block the key from turning? That happened to me. You can open the door from the inside, remove the lock, take it apart and replace the flapper (yourself or locksmith).

If you've removed the door handle in the past or messed with the linkage going to the handle, it doesn't take much to slightly bend those rods to the point where the unlock won't work.

In general, it shouldn't be hard to fix. If it's the cylinder, Bill's right on the money - remove the cylinder, take it to a locksmith, have them clean it and install another flapper door. Locksmiths can do this VERY cheaply and usually while you wait.

If you haven't pulled off the door panel before, here's my writeup -

Could possibly be the rod flexing. I removed the handle on my last FD, but I have yet to touch this one. The door panel has not been taken off either.

The cylinder turns just fine and the drivers door cylinder opens the passenger door every time.

Clint,

After reading this, I have completely the opposite problem.

Both of my door locks work with the key, but supposely when you lock from your driver's side, the passenger side suppose to lock. Mine doesn't. I'm thinking its my solenoid mechanism that locks the passenger side, but too lazy to take the panel off and check it...

Ya, I can't lock my driver side from the inside when I push the flapper lock down. It also won't lock the passenger side. It's been like this since I owned it.

Ok, before I take my handle off and mess with the rod, let me make sure I am after the right issue. My problem is not that the exterior handle will not open the door. The handle works fine as long as the door is unlocked. My problem is that turning the key does not make the interior "flapper" pop all the way up and unlock. I really don't think the rod has anything to do with that. Maybe a weak actuator that moves the flapper?

What happens often is the rod bends so that it doesn't push enough on the unlock mechanism to fully move it. Either bend them back or replace.

I see!

I agree with Ihor! its the rod.

take the rear door handle covers off, take the 10mm nuts out, take the handles off, and then see if its hooked to the locking mechanism. If its hooked up, un hook it and see if you could unlock it by pulling or pushing.

If you want to take the door handle completely off to avoid getting your paint scratched, you would need to take the door panels off (5 minutes) and un do the power wiring harness from the handle and take the two clips that hooks to the frame of the door. Oh, you would need to remove the front window triangle.. OR go look at Dale's write up! I also wrote one up 2-3 years ago and also wrote up for Sonix7.
