Intercooler suggestion

I'm looking to upgrade my intercooler on my FD, and I would like to see your suggestions.

I have a fighter's garage intake (stock airbox is out of the way)
I'll be using an efni y-pipe
I don't want a fmic. for obvious cooling reasons
I want to keep the battery in its place
I want to drop my intake air temps a lot (obviously)

any suggestions?

A smaller battery would probably allow enough room

well then choose a SMIC other then the m2 large or the larger pettit as those wont fit your battery requirements. I have a blitz smic available in Japan if your interested.

PFS SMIC will allow the battery to remain, has a high quality duct, and is ~300% larger than stock. Construction and materials are excellent and seems to be pretty efficient.
The only thing you might have to do is block the hole which would normally lead to the PFS airbox since your using an open intake.
Shown with the efnii 'Y' and the PFS intake.

Rotary Extreme standard V-mount. It fits with a small battery and works great.

There was a huge thread about this. Do a search my man. I remember posting some info for a thread on almost all the availible SMICs for our cars. I personally recommend an M2 SMIC. M2 Large if you want do relocate the battery (its the best in class).

I love the PFS i/c. It fits perfect and looks good. You can get it in a different color and the Koyo rad fits with it. And you get to keep your battery.

You can get it used on the forum or you can have it made and painted whatever color you want or not at all.

I've got the large PFS racing SMIC with duct. coming off the car next month and is for sale. It works great, but I'm going FMIC because I now have a wide open front end. let me know if you want it.

There's more to dropping intake temps than an intercooler

If you have water methanol injection you can run a smaller core.

And ducting is an important point as well.

Greddy/ Trust SMIC
pettit SMIC ducting
water/ meth injection (does a lot more than just lower intake temps)

remember, the shorter your IC piping & core size, the more responsive your turbo system will be as a whole. V-mounts offer the highest cooling efficiency, but are often more expensive than a
SMIC

intake temps will be lower with a SMIC and a cheap AI unit than they will be with a v-mount, but partner a v-mount with AI, and you have MAXIMUM cooling potential.

REMBER: ducting, perhapse the cheapest, most reliable cooling mod.

If you get the PFS make sure you get the PFS intake box as well.

Alot of info here...
http://www.fd3s.net/intercoolers.html

In the end, you are going to be the one to decide on which IC to get but I STRONGLY recommend the M2 medium. Make sure you get the duct that comes with it as well.

Whatever you get though, you can also do the following to drop temps further (alot of this has already been said)...
-AI!! This will allow you to even maybe use the stock IC
-Install an IC fan for when you are in bad traffic
-Duct properly
-Use thermal tape on end tanks (confirmed by only 1 person I know of so far (thoerie) but I think it works)

Why? He's got an open intake. While I'm not a huge fan of them, alot of people run them and they fit just fine with a PFS SMIC. Same for the M2 or SR Motorsports intake boxes.
It's way more important to get the PFS duct, not so much if the intake isn't included. Especially if it's priced accordingly.

I read on the old mailing list thing that the PFS system works best when you have everything together and its only mediocre apart. I'll try to look tonight for the info. I'm not disagreeing with you btw. I never said it wasn't important to get the duct.

Blitz's stock-mount is definitely one of the best fitting aftermarket SMICs. Mine dropped right in with a stock battery and intake, and even mated up to the stock duct, which IMO is a huge plus.

It's a bit more narrow than the stock box.
