Angry Intercooler piping question

I just got an Apexi RX-6 single turbo. I also had a custom intercooler made for my fd for cheep but the inlets are 2.5". I'm thinking of having the inlets on the intercooler enlarged to 3" to work with 3" piping is this a good idea? Is 3" piping a good size for my setup on the FD?

also, aluminum piping? Is that what I should get?

i have this same problem with my setup, so i bought a bigger intercooler with bigger IC piping outlets. If you look at flow charachteristics through a 2.5 inch diameter pipe and a 3 inch pipe, there is a big difference. Im waiting for the this weather to get warmer before i tackle the intercooler change.

yes use aluminum and 3 inch is pretty much the universal ic pipe size on a fd if you go larger its custom. You can use the IC u had made the flow wont be as great but it will work never the less. You will need joint addapeter from 3 to 2.5 you can get those at turbohoses.com for cheap.
