intercooler or not

ok money is a consideration i was told by a builder a intercooler dosnt give u any extra hp and for a once in a while street race at reg boost its not really worth the $ however i have spoken with some fd owners that said the cars ran better w a intercooler than with a boost of 5 more lbs w/o a intercooler 2nd question is a 9.5 lbs flywheel the best bang for the buck that i have seen some performance retailers say. i forgot to mention that i was talking about a stock vs. larger aftermkt intercooler

What have you done to your car so far?

Yes, the intercooler by itself won't give you any increase in horsepower. What it will do, is allow you to run higher levels of boost much safer, which in turn will give you increased levels of HP gain.

Intercoolers cool the charge air and let you run more boost. An intercooler should probably be one of the last things you do, after boost gauge, downpipe, ECU, midpipe, AST, radiator, etc. These things make it more likely your car can handle the increased boost.

I wouldn't say it's not going to give you any increase in hp. Any lowering of the intake temp will give you some increase in hp. But I do agree that unless you plan on modding the car to the point of running higher boost, it's not the first thing you need to spend money on.
