Intercooler ducting question

hi, i still have the stock intercooler but i noticed that there is a duct that also takes some of the air from the cooler and feeds the filters.

My queston is, is it better to remove and block that air intake duct and just have the duct feeding the cooler only? problem with this is that the filters might just suck in hot under bonnet air,, i have a HKS intake setup.

Should i just leave it stock.

Well if you only have one oil cooler a popular mod for some has been to run some sort of ducting up from the passenger side oil cooler opening to the filters.

Well there was a thread where someone cut a whole in the wheel well and made ducting from there. Not what I would do but if you search for something along that line you will find it.

I think he is just asking about the open hole after you remove the stock intake system.

If that's your question, you should block the hole to allow as much are to go thru the intercooler and not bypass it into the engine bay...

hey Vmmmpshhhh

Im in japan too.. U live in Kyoto? Hows driving down there? Must be humid in Summer.. rite now.. tokyo sux..

anyway.. I just did a mod to my car similar as to what you wanna do.

I have apexi intakes...99 stock front fender. I got two insulated 50mm duct pipes to squeese through the gaps on each side of the bonnet lock. There is just enough space to feed them down into the rad intake area. There might be other prettier ways to do it.. but for now.. at least I think its functional.

hey chopstix,, ill look into it tomrorow morning.. i think i wanna block up the holes and find a way to route the air to the filters.

Did you buy the 99spec front or did it come with the car, im looking for one at the moment but they are still damn expensive, even on yahoo auction.

If you have a stock intake/filter system and a stock IC, then leave the air-duct stock.

You can keep the hole as long as you keep the cover that directs the air. If you don't keep the cover, the air will just go up into the hood. That's a pic above of my car a year or so ago with the Blitz SMIC (which uses the stock duct).
