Which intercooler for 350 whp?
Hi, I'm looking for an intercooler for my rx7. I'm planning on building the car to around 300-350 whp (w/ RZ turbo). Which intercooler should do the best job. I'm pretty sure I want a SMIC. My ideal will be minimum presure drop, quick response, and minimum engine bay temperature. Please give me some input, and explain why you suggest the intercooler. Thanks.

the apexi FMIC is a nice unit and is designed for either single turbo or stock setup! It's sold with piping for stock turbos which is nice, throw that and the efini y-pipe and your good to go!

get the Greddy 3 row!! Overkill!! You'll need to run over 15psi with this one though, correct me if i'm wrong.
and doesn't the M2 have fitting issues when you put in an aftermarket radiator? or is that just the bigger M2?

no..it doesnt...i have the mazda comp radiator and the m2 large. the m2 large is my favorite IC...its great.
you want something with the LEAST amount of pressure drop possible. the stock twins are already working overtime and if you get a good ic like the m2 then they do not have to work as hard to put boost through the system. the stock ic..if you want to run fifteen lbs...actually pushes over seventeen lbs just to get fifteen to show up because the stock ic is a POS. the fmic has pressure drop issues as well from what i understand. the m2 units have almost NO pressure drop at all and are thus the best choice among the setups.
since the m2 units are impossible to get..rotary reliability and racing has manufactured some for their shop. you should be able to get one from them if you want. I believe they are a couple hundred less than the m2 but are very similar in design and fitment.
you can reach ROTARY at 7148398018 ask for louis or nick.

IC-wise, I think the M2 and Greddy units offer the best performance of what's out there.

i think it depends what you want to do with the car.
a lot of dragstrip runs? the general rule of thumb is go with a front mount
track? the general rule of thumb is a stock-mount, so you won't have to worry about overheating from blocking the radiator.

The M2 med IC has a bigger core than the PFS, I like it alot too, but the fit could be better.
FMICs have fit issues IMHO, cutting up the front, etc isn't my idea of modding my sweet FD.

I'll second the opinion on the M2 as I've got the medium and the fitment is fine. I think Jason has them in stock in the RX7 Store or should be able to get them.
