you have a pretty much stock car with the stock intercooler correct?

I would do the stock airbox mod. That gives you a HUGE bang for little bux.

I personally like enclosed airboxes eg. M2 aluminum or CF box, rx7fashion box, or the newer CF rotary extreme box. Not a big fan of open elements unless you do proper ducting like damian

the racingbeat had problems iirc with pulling hot air from the intercooler. In general it isn't a highly recommended intake.

adam c made the stock airbox mod:

with really good results.

The airbox mod is good if your not looking to spend much money. But depending what I/C you go with down the road you may need to replace it anyways, in that case Greddy or HKS is a good choice.

I have one of those. if you are interested PM me.

I had the adam_c type airbox mod on my last FD. I've actually been doing that for years on various VWs and FCs that I had. Its a nice cost effective way of flowing more air using the stock intake box. Plus you get the added benefit of cooler intake temps b/c the box is make of plastic instead of aluminum or carbon fiber + aluminum mix which retains heat more. Plus those M2 style boxes always seemed to have fitment problems and are kinda pricey. There is info with temp comparisons on either Scuderia or Robinette's site.

if you get a little more boost than normal with the Adam C kit just change the wastegate pill. call Jeff at Pettit racing he will give you the Holly carb jets to reduce the boost to safe levels.

Message Adam C he has the air box mod, AKA cheap basterd mod. He sells the parts for it as well.

^Agreed.
Not sure about Florida, but if you have emissions, keeping the stock box is nice. And the mod (as jeff p mentioned), whether adam c's or otherwise, should be nearly invisible to an inspection.

I have the Blitz system that I personally like, but if I was to spend the big bucks I would get the M2 cold are box thingy. Just my .02 though. Good luck!

Apexi Intake. One of the supra owners did a test with that intake and like ten others and the apexi intake had the best filtration by far. Im sure someone on here as that link to the test.

Most people are seeing about 1 psi increase in boost after installing my stock airbox mod. If that increase puts you in danger of overboosting (over 11 psi on stock ecu), you will need a boost controller.

I am still making the kits. Pm me if anyone wants one ($70 shipped).

Do I have to drill my airbox for this to work?

If I understand your question... it simply controls it at pre-set level(s) when flow in and/or out of your engine becomes too efficient for your ECU. If you still have the stock ECU and with only a cat-back, you should still see a 10-8-10 pattern on a boost guage.

Yes. The cut(s) are easily made on the bottom of the box, and they aren't visable.

BTW, I didn't see it mentioned before, but I think another advantage of keeping the stock box, (and I believe most of the CAI boxes) is to quiet the noise from the airpump if your still running one.

When we modify our exhaust and/or intake systems, this results in higher flow thru the engine, and increased boost levels. Most of us use boost controllers to lower boost. Generally boost levels will exceed what we want with no controller.
