Intake prob or ???

When I turn my FD on, sometimes it makes a ruhhh noise and it sounds like it is coming from the intake I think. When I hit the gas sometimes it revs right and sometimes it goes ruhhh and then ruhhh but sometimes it sounds just fine. What is the problem?

Why not get under the hood, pull on the throttle cable to rev the car and listen around to see if you can locate "exactly" where the sound is coming from?

I am pretty sure it is coming from the intake or somewhere right around it, if around it very close.

Ok, it could be the air pump but no one can tell you "exactly" over the internet since we aren't there to hear the noise. You are going to have to put your head under the hood and snoop around.

Alright enough jokes, I can't explain the noise, it is just a noise coming from my intake or right beside it, any ideas of what could be wrong?

(Dude, I seriously can't stop laughing at that)

Seriously though you need to describe the problem a little better. You said "when I turn the car on" are you starting it? Or just turning the ignition to crank it over? Also when you hit the gas how high on in RPM's are you taking it? Could you possibly pop the hood like Majik said and rev the motor using the throttle cable and at least see what side of the motor the sound is coming from? Any other symptoms? Smoke? Loss of performance?

All things which you've failed to include which makes it pretty impossible to answer you're question seriously..

Do you have the hose on the right side of the intake box that goes down under the box and hooks up to nowhere? This is a "silencer" hose that eliminates pulses from the air pump ACV system. If it's missing, it can cause unpleasant noises...

The anti Moo hose...

Use some injector cleaner ! around the hissing barking whatever... and see if the rpm's change...

Other than that, I'd be shocked if it wasn't one of the hoses on the y pipe from the turbos... do a search on y pipes, and common leaks on the stock coupler...

Alright, it is for sure coming from the intake, the car is running, and when I hit the gas it does it, but when I get to higher RPM's, it doesn't make the noise anymore, only low RPM's, mostly when it is idling and I hit the gas.

That should be your airpump working. It would be a MOO-ing type noise, not a fart. If it really is a farting sound, then I dont know.

You run an open intake or stock airbox?

Well to tell the truth, I don't know a lot about cars period, just learning. I'm only 17, and I just finally saved up enough money to buy my FD. I got a really good deal, and I knew it had a couple of problems. I think it is an open intake, because he gave me an airbox that was in there before when he sold me the car. The intake is apexi if that helps. Where is the airpump?

Open air intakes, like your Apexi intake almost always make the airpump audible.

Its simple... if its MOOOOing, its your airpump, and its normal, nothing to worry about.

Does it sound like a Mad cow mooing? Is only when the revs are below 2900 rpm? If so, that's smog pump.
