Intake Manifold Gasket leaking exhaust

Hello fellow Rx7s

How critical is this repair which can get very expense ($ 1200).
Should I wait until I need a new motor?

My car is about 86k miles. RPM 285,8.7, 8.8 and 8.6.
Any Suggestions.

I thank you in advance !!!

Ok your intake manifold gasket can't be leaking exhaust gas. Its an intake manifold not an exhaust manifold. If your intake manifold is leaking, check your lower intake manifold gasket. If yours has never been changed, it probably has a paper one. The newer version is metal. If its your lower gasket its gonna be pretty labor intensive. You have to pull of your turbos to change it out. Not hard at all, just time consuming.

Yes, your lower intake manifold can leak exhaust. I have two engines torn down at present and both had the old paper gasket, and both were leaking. One of them was leaking so bad that the entire rear of the engine was covered in nasty oily soot. The rear housing has a round port at the exhaust manifold that ports up to the intake lower mainfold at the rear lower corner. It has something to do with emissions and the air control valve providing air to the cat converter. See the Secondary air injection system it works with the air pump and is controled by the ECU, see service manual page F-115 in the 93 version and read the description. How much this effects the performance I don't know, but i can't image it is problem enough worth changing it.
