Installing rear coilover - need advice for stubbon 17mm shock/link bolt

Hi Guys,

In the process of installing some Tein's on my FD. I have been following Pure's tutorial, but have run into a snag. After removing the the 17mm nut from the lower shock bolt, i can't seem to removed the shock bolt (its a combo bolt / swaybar link) from the shock. I've tried to jack up the control arm...some gentle hammering...pb blaster...it wont budge. Once again, the 17mm nut is removed, and the swaybar is detached. I just can't get the bolt out.

Pic to illustrate (sorry, pic needs to be rotated to the right once for proper orientation).

Any suggestions would be helpful!

Take some of the stress off by jacking it up then tap the bolt with a hammer. You shouldn't need to whack it too hard.

Oh, and only jack it enough to take the stress off, not to lift the car.

These are not recommendations but I know I would do these things were I in the same position

1) put a nut or series of nuts on the end and hammer harder with a rubber mallet or place something more blunt on the end to protect the threads and go with a steel hammer
2) Probably would have removed all 3 control arm bolts by now as well as the top of the shock tower. Basically loosen anything that could be indirectly putting tension on that area.
3) used some sort of gear puller with a cap on the shock bolt to push it out the other way...

I would do these things...I don't know if they are good.

Just put a jack under the control arm to take the stress off the arm and hit the bolt out with a punch. It helps if you disconnect the other side too.

Thanks for the replies guys.

IRP - Do you mean disconnect the other side from the sway bar? It has already been disconnected.

Also how much should i jack up the control arm? Just a bit?

Yes the other side. Just a bit. Go up and down with the arm until you find the point where tension is taken off the bolt.
