Installing 1998 newer engine/harness in USA FD

Has anybody tried to install a 1998 newer motor, harness, vacuum box in an older FD? I have heard that the body side of the Ecu harness uses different connectors. Are those newer connectors available? Are there the same amount of pins?

I believe you would have to change out the ecu also.
The connection from your ecu to the harness will be different from 92-96, 96-99, and 99 and up.

Here is a pic of 96-99 ecu where harnesses plug in.. As you could see, 98 harness will not plug in with your 93-95 ECU.

I am mainly interested because of the vacuum "black box" which eliminates the solenoids and lot of the wiring. I could use a power FC for a later jap spec FD. I am concerned though because I have heard that the body connectors are different. I do not know if those connectors are available. Also even if I swap the pins over to a new connector will everything still work?

If you have the wire diagrams you should be able to rewire the harness.

The black box does the same thing so just wire the solinoids up accordining and use the USDM ecu side and keep everything the same except the solenoids.

download the FSM wiring diagrams for the black box and look at the one you have on your car. Should only be about 20 wires that need changing. All solenoids work on the same principle.
