Installed my Fluidyne radiator and.....

I don't see any difference in Water Temp. according to the PFC. Nor do I see faster cooling. Is there something wrong?

I don't think you will see a differnce under normal driving conditions. After all, it's the thermostat and fans that control the temperature. You should see a difference on the track while the car is under WOT for long periods of time. Can you explain what temps you are seeing and what type of driving you are doing?

I've been doing a lot of hard street and freeway driving. I've been seeing 90s up to 100C.

100 is not that bad. Do you have your fans running all the time?

Do you have your fans on? I have a koyo and mine doesn't get to 100 on normal driving but when I have the fans on it's usually around 74

I still have the stock rad (koyo on order). I leave the fans on all the time with my fan mod and my normal driving temps are around 210F on a very hot day. On a cool day they stay around 190. The only time I've been worried about my temps is when I'm on a road course. If I'm not careful they will scoot up into the 220-240F range.
My suggestion is that you wire up the fan mod if you haven't already. This will knock your temps down a good bit. Mine used to run really warm if I was ever stuck in traffic. Once I did the fan mod the temps were fine.

You should try changing your thermostat. I recently got a Fluidyne and whenever the car is moving it sticks right at 180. At idle it will slowly start to creep up, with the driving lights on the fans turn on at about 195, so it will get up to there if I let it idle long enough. I was going to do the fan mod, but I'm so pleased with the temps I'm not in a hurry anymore. Even with the air on full blast in rush hour, it sticks right at 180 (due to the fans being on). I haven't really stressed the system yet (buttonwillow on a 95 degree day is when I discovered my cooling system is seriuosly inadequate...), but early indications are very good. Before, I had a dying thermostat and I probably saw 230 on a regular basis (didn't have a temp gauge, but i could tell it was threatening to creep above horizontal).

Is the fan mod easy to do? I'm electrically uninclined. Is there a write up on it?

I think this site has it. There might be a few others. Hope this helps:

Question

Do you think i should be worried if my stock temp gauge sits slightly above horizontal? There does not seem to be any problems. I do live in Florida. Maybe it needs to be linearized? I previously owned a third gen also and the new one seems to run cooler but the old one's gauge sat at horizontal always. I dunno how to be sure.

Can the fan mod be done if you have the Power FC?

For everyone's future reference, there are actually two different fan mods, and there's usually no distinction when someone mentions that you should do it to your car.

Fan mod #1 involves grounding the unused wire coming out of your ECU. This is usually done to combat heat soak after you've parked because, when performed correctly, it causes your fans to run for 10 minutes. You can read up on this here.

Fan mod #2 involves grounding some of the wires in the engine bay that go to the relays. This allows you to turn the fans on whenever you want, like when you've got no airflow (stuck in traffic), or if you've got a big FMIC. This was Dave Disney's idea, and you can read about it here, under the "How-To" section. Note: this method will NOT turn itself off after any period of time and does not require your key to be in the ignition. If you leave your switch on your fans will run all night long...

The link that 1FAST7 gave us pertains to mod #1.

Note that method #1 will turn on the fans while the car is running as well, and leaving the switch on for 30 seconds (or longer) after the car is off will cause them to stay on for 10 minutes. The object of method #2 is to get the fans to turn on to high speed (by triggering the appropriate combination of relays) while the car is moving, method #1 only turns them on at medium speed. About the temp gauge being above horizontal, when the guage starts to go significantly (more than 10 degrees) above horizontal, the car is getting pretty hot, I'd say approaching 230 degrees, which you should treat as an absolute upper limit. Now, with my real temp gauge and much improved cooling system, it never even gets to horizontal, it basically stays 5-10 degrees below horizontal, this corresponds to 180-200 degrees F on my real temp gauge. Since I can never achieve the very high temps I did before with the new cooling abilities, I can't relate the "above horizontal" range to an actual temperature.

HEY U WANT FAN MOD IN 30 SECS?

Pull the A/C relay or A/C fuse, and everytime u press the AC button and turn your fans on, it'll automatically turn your fans on high without running the A/C system!

Cheap 30 second trick that works...best fan mod ever, unless it's a hot day and u want the a/c on

What water/coolant mixture did you use? also, the fan mod does help a lot. I've done the #1 method and use a switch to turn the fans on/off. I see 80C cruising around the streets and no higher than 100C under hard driving on mountain roads.

i was just thinking...

when you move at higer speeds (say 80+mph) wont the fan mod restrict air from the radiator? because air is trying to move inwards while the fan pushes air outwards... has anybody looked into this?

Since you have the Power FC I would just send it to XS to have it tuned for your mods and while its there get them to lower the temp that you fans come on. I had them lower my fan temp to 88C and my temp hardley ever makes it to 90C, even on a hot day with hard driving.

It cost $150 for them to tune your PFC and you probably need it. They are also the only ones that can do it (lower the fan temp)since it requires the software. I had them tune my PFC for my mods and was very pleases with the results.

Later,
STEPHEN

Think again, the fan always pulls the air in toward your engine. The fan will restrict flow at speed above 35mph even at high setting. So I've been told by Tri-point and Mazda Trix.
