install 94 ECU in 93 RX7, is it possible?

It seems to be that my air pump MAY not be working because of a problem with the ecu after I sparked the wires, but I will get confirmation on Monday. I would like to replace my ecu with a 94 ecu because I heard they have less problems, but.. is it that simple? or should I stick with a 93 ecu

The 94 ECU will throw a code for the EGR switch, since all 94's had it. In '93 California FDs were the only ones to have the EGR switch, so if you have that then you will be fine.

or another option is your ecu would be the older 8bit unit there is a patch loom available that you plug into your factory loom then that will plug into a late model 16bit ecu which is much better ..that is another option that would be available for you

get a 95 ecu, i had a cali 93 ecu and it kept throwing the egr code, went and got a 95 ecu off the forum for $50 and no more codes. It might be an illusion but i think it actually runs a bit better.

According to my carfax, my RX7 was made in Colorado then shipped to Orlando Florida. I suppose the easiest way for me to do this is to phisically check for an EGR valve so that way theres no problems. I believe it does have an EGR valve, cause when I did a smog check recently, The max spec was 704 for NOX and mine was 98, which is close to nothing, but ill check for an egr valve

All 93's have an EGR valve. You need to check for the EGR switch on the front of the valve. If your 7 is from Colorado then you should not have the EGR switch. The 94 will throw a code for the EGR switch if you do not have one.

When I looked through the forum I found that only 93 cali fd's have an egr valve, where all 94's have an egr valve. Thats why you can use a non-cali (federal) 93 ecu or a 95 ecu when trying to get rid of egr cel.

I understand now. So All 93's have an EGR valve, but not all of them have an EGR switch? Mine probably does not have the switch because its not made in cali but it has to have the EGR valve, cause other wise my NOX readings would be through the roof
