Innovate LC-1 w/ XD-1 Gauge installed...questions

Last night I finished wiring my Innovate LC-1 wideband O2 with XD-1 gauge. It was a lot simpler install than I thought it was going to be. I drilled a hole for the O2 bung in my midpipe just after the DP/MP flange, it is sitting exactly vertical which is why I chose that location. I routed the wires up through my shifter. This was especially nice because I could thread the O2 sensor through the hole and keep the electronics to O2 sensor connections inside the cabin of the car.

The XD-1 gauge I mounted in my steering colum, single gauge mount. This took a little modification to the pod...and mine isn't perfect...but it fits nicely I think. I thought about my gauge layout...

Defi link series oil temp and boost in the center speaker pod...wideband front and center under the tach....

I think the wideband is of the most importance so I mounted it in the most visable spot. Thoughts and opinions are welcomed! I didnt find much info on a wideband install when searching so I might put together some install notes in the near future.

On to my questions...

On the wideband it shows my AFRs in the 14-15:1 range. I get weird fluctuations which seem to be the inverse of what I woudl expect. I am 12-13:1 at idle and in low load cruise, when I go to accelerate the AFRs go up into the 14:1 range. I am only running 4-5psi of boost and staying out of boost now that i know I have fuel issues. What could be the source of my lean condition. I will change my fuel filter tonight if I can source one....

I have a street port (I think...could be a more aggressive port), PFS intercooler, DP, MP with HF cat, RB dual tip exhaust, walboro FP, Jacobs ignition, and a PowerFC.

I got a base map off one of the sites I found in the PowerFC forum and that is what I am running. When I input it into the PFC I realized that it was pretty similar to the PFC base map, just richer fuel settings in the higher boost areas. The map I programed came from a street ported car with no cat, so I thought it would be richer than I would need (good). However, the wideband says NO...I have other issues.

Thoughts and suggestions appreciated. I need to sort the fueling problem before my GT35R kit gets here....

Rotary's idle very rich. and will NOT idle near @ 14's (from what i have read, and tried myself)

light cruise should be lean, however not in boost. When in medium/high vac my car runs 15:1+ ratio's

This is what has me confused...med/high vaccum I run 12-13:1 AFR...as soon as I get on the throttle...0-3 psi of boost...I get 14-15:1 AFRs. I would assume this should be inverted.

My car idles ok at 14.8-15:1....if you richen it toward 11-12:1 it really starts to bog.

I am adjusting in my settings menu of the PFC the IGL/IGT/Inj menu...I richen the global correction factor of the injectors to 1.2 or so to be safe. I have to do this every time I start the car though because it clears itself when the car is shut off.

I would really like to know why it is running so lean. For all intents and purposes it shouldn't be...but nothing ever goes as it should.

I will post pictures when I get a chance...

It needs to be tuned. You should see high 14's at all cruise speeds and mid-low 13's at 4-5 psi.

So Trevor...when are you gonna help me tune it ?

I just want the thing to function until the GT35R gets here. I don't want to tune it the way it is now...and then tune it again later. My daily is down until I can install a wheel bearing, two cars both not 100%! Sucks..

I will just stay out of boost...I just thought I had more problems than just tuning. I think there is something fuel related, because the map that I input into the PFC shouldn't be WAY off...as it appears to be. It should be off...but close.

Those were my thoughts.

Stupid question - you did calibrate the unit before using, right?

Nah...I wouldn't worry about it. It's probably just the tune as every car is different.

I'll help you out once you get the new turbo on. Just get with me here or on AZRX7.

Yes the unit was calibrated.

20.8% oxygen was the free air calibration value.

Cozmo - we met the other day: I was in the minivan. You've to be careful about loading maps without datalogit. The maps that you load using the commander is the correction factor map. There is a "basic" map that has injector duration in millisec. I know that different tuners change the basic maps and then zero the correction factor map. So just by looking at the correction factor map will not give you a true indication of the maps.

I have a map tuned at KDR that is pig rich that you can try. I also map from SR Motorsport. What I'm running now is a combination of the KDR and SR maps. I need to get Steve Kan to tune for me.

Regarding the reversed AFR readings. Is the polarity correct on the wideband unit?

Mine does...but its just a stock port. My vaccum is a hair less than when idling rich but it still idles smooth and solid.

Street ports usually don't idle all that well at 14.7 though. With that said it doesn't mean you need to go nuts and go for high 11s/low 12s like alot of people do. Somewhere in the mid-high 13's usually gives you a decent idle with a street port...even with a huge one.

That is exactly where i put it...yes.

The unit is installed fine...the polarity is correct.

I just think my car needs to be tuned. That will have to wait until after the single goes in...

Either the wideband is off...or my car is an anomally...but my car idles better at 14.7:1 that it does at 13:1. It idles rock steady too...no hiccups

It will actually idle fine at a wide range of AFRs. You hear the exhaust note change tone as you add or take away fuel...but it still idles steady, right at 900rpm (which is where my idle is set).

lucky lol, i cant lean my idle out any more than enough to see 11:1 occasionaly but still sit at 10:1... It should be more reasonable soon after i install my AFPR and retune...
