I'm confused as to what you are trying to do. If you trying to replace the 2 turbo coolant hoses, you don't need to remove the heat shield for that.

I'm definitely no guru, but in all the time I have prowled these forums I have never heard anyone replace the coolant seals on stock turbos.

Am I missing something here?

Where were those 2 bolts that you took off? On the downpipe side? There are 2 10mm bolts on the motor side holding it to the turbo housings.

So you have a turbo rebuild kit for each turbo? It's going to be a pain to get off the 6 bolts that hold the turbos to the housings, if it's even possible. You might as well take the turbos off the car at this point.

My goal is not really to remove the turbo, because they are both in great shape, im only trying to replace the 2 turbo coolant seals because I have a new coolant leak coming from this exact area. I already removed the 2 bolts on the exhaust side, so There are 2 more bolts for the heat sheild from the engine side? How in the world do I get to those bolts???

Let's take a step back for a second. How did you determine that the turbo's coolant seal is the cause of the leak? The most common cause of coolant leaks in this area are from the 2 turbo coolant hoses. They are a common failure point because of the heat that they are exposed to.

Some good info here: http://www.robrobinette.com/turbo_lines.htm

+1 When someone asks a question I believe it should be answered rather then to ask questions about the knowledge of the fact.

ok im sorry I actually DID mean coolant HOSES, thats my mistake. Basically im just wondering What tool do I use to remove the 2 bolts for the heat sheild on the engine side( TIGHT location!!!) so I can remove the entire heatshied itself, and have full access to the 2 coolant hoses?

The coolant hoses are accessible without removing the heat shield. Look at the picture in the first link I provided above. Both hoses are shown in that picture.

Ok... I hate to ask stupid question cause i new at all this sorry, but basically the first turbo coolant hose is attached to the waterpump, and the second hose is attached to the primary turbo? and this means there are NO actual coolant hoses near the seconday turbo?

There are coolant lines (hard lines) which route coolant between the two turbo assemblies. These have copper crush washers and banjo bolts. Sometimes coolant can leak from the crush washers if someone reused them as they are suppose to be one time use.

Thanks Mahjik! you saved me a LOT of time, as I was thinking there was an actual coolant hose near the second turbo. I WILL however be replacing ALL crushwashers, and banjo bolts as they are all rusted out. ok last question.... I can see the top end of the coolant hose which is attached to the primary turbo, but the bottom section, I cannot see it. How do I access the bottom of this hose to remove it completely, any special tools or method?

Isn't there a limit as to the number of threads ONE PERSON can start???? Every time I open the 3rd gen section, Ernesto has a new thread. I've become so tired of seeing his name that this is the first one (of his threads) I have looked at in a long time. I know this forum is supposed to be about helping people but ................ come on!!!! Is anyone else tired of this????

Yes. But Ernesto ain't as bad as a few of the other guys (screen names all seem to start with W or have a W in them) who are too stupid and lazy to search for info and read the f'in FAQ thread. We've already had the 'which clutch' thread this week so next week we'll probably see another BOV or IC or downpipe thread.

Back on topic....

Good luck to you Ernesto. I can't help as I'm still confused as to if you are looking to replace the crush washers or turbo coolant lines so I'll let Mahjik and others chime in.

Edit - I take that back. He does have too many f'in threads going at the same time about the same topic!

You go Ernesto !!! But get your **** right before posting...There is NO such thing as a Silicone Rats Nest ole buddy ( other post ). We can help you, but we have to have proper identification, facts and damn good pictures !! So impress us troubelshooters with excellent descriptions, like you know what the hell you're talking about. Forget about the cell phone pics and get a Sony Steady shot, mash the macro button before closeups.

The heat shield can not be removed while the turbo assembly is on the engine.
