I'm scared - think my FD will sell this week

It finally hit me that I could be without my FD at some point this week or next - I have guys coming from different states all this week and next - one older guy with a trailor and cash. I know I'm using the money to put towards our house that's being built in Florida but I'm a little scared to be without this beast. One thing that's cool is I've never been beaten in any race - even when I was stock - I guess I found the right cars

But my wife was seriously getting ready to kill me since I wanted to get coilovers, HKS ignition, Steve Kan tuning for 17 psi to see if I could tap the 400 rwhp barrier, new seats, blah, blah...and the list goes on.

But one thing I can say is that after all the absolute $hit I've gone through to get my car to where it is - I got it there. I know that there will never be a car I step foot in that looks better, gets more attention, and is more fun to drive than my FD..IMO. I was always envious of the FDs up at KDR that had 300+hp when my car only had 255 - now my car is one of those cars I envied - but I'm incredibly satisfied with the journey I've had with my FD and wouldn't trade it for anything.

You guys take care of your FDs and remember that you drive a legacy - no matter how many problems the car gives you - stick with it and you'll be rewarded in the end. These cars are simply amazing and by far the most intriguing car to come out of Japan...

I'm sorry to hear you may be parting with your FD. This is my second 3rd gen and I know after selling my first, I was bummed too. Good luck with the house .......... but I hope you end of keeping your FD as well.

You'll own another one eventually, I'm sure of it. Good luck with your home. Sometimes other priorities force sale, and it really sucks, but it's part of life I guess.

Man, sorry to hear it Barry . It's too bad that we never hung out together over the last few years. I spent alot of time at KD Rotary and in PA, but our paths never crossed.

I'm sooooo glad that I'm a single non-family guy.....Gotham Racing will be my family

That sucks man... I know that with these cars you will have problems but you are so right about it all paying off in the end. These cars are awesome and legendary.

This is why I have no girlfriend/wife/will not have kids. I'm keeping the FD!

I'm really sorry to hear it though. Maybe you can get another when the time is right. Let's just hope is goes to a good home, with someone that will love it even half as much as you do.

So my girlfriend changed her brakes on her Miata this weekend while I watched and gave very few pointers. She also helped me swap my engine in my garage. She did all the work on her timing belt except for me checking the alignment. That included belts, hoses, coolant, and valve cover gasket.

And she nearly runs off the road craning her neck to look at the latest Corvettes... likes the silver ones the best!

I think I may have to make an offer she wouldn't refuse.

Never. It would have to be totally devastated and then I'd likely still buy another one if there was enough salveagable. Like I just did...

never sell man.. wives/girlfriends want you to get rid of the sports car. With the RX-7 she probably thinks too many girls try to hit on you. its not about the house

I'm actually siding with my wife on this one - I've been married for 10 years and we've lived pretty modestly - my wife is actually quite different than the typical American girl and is frugal - she even buys her clothes and 2nd hand shops because she feels new clothes are too expensive. I only make about $60K a year and she doesn't work so a ton of money has gone into my car. I've always have had the cars that I want over the years while she just let me get anything I want - but I promised her a nice house in Florida one day and I'm giving it to her because she deserves it. I've gotten what I've wanted out of the FD - time to move on.

A guy From NY is flying down on Thursday and I'm confident that I will be FD-less on Friday - he's owned 2 Vipers and is familiar with many other high-end cars and am comfortable giving my car to a 40+ year old and not some punk *** kid. I will have to attend some BBQs in Florida so I can ride in the king Japanese car in the future. My house will be in Melbourne by the way Godzilla-T78. I know I'll miss it but won't own one again - I think I went through some unreal experiences with my particular car to get it right.

Awe, man. I can only imagine how crappy I would feel if I had to sell my car...I even bought a house for my car so it would have a garage to live in. How pathetic is that? Anyway, hopefully you will get your house on the way and will have another FD in there. Good luck dude.

Kiwk,

2.5 years ago I bought a house. I had previously lost my savings in the stock crash of 2000, so it took me a year longer to get my house. It took a year after that before I could get my FD. You are putting your priorities in line and you are doing the right thing.

I think when we see someone like you that we look up to, since you have been on the forum so long and you are very knowledgeable...and you sell your car...I guess maybe some of us question ourselves. Thats just my guess.

I'm very happy for you, but it does as strange as this sounds sadden me to see you give up your car. How weird is that?

It will pain me very much to see my car rolling away from me - I might actually cry like a baby - but I'm ending this on a good note. I can easily afford to keep my car - I will almost have my house paid for in Florida and have enough in the bank to take it easy for a while - one thing about Florida is no support in that area (that I know of) - I'm about 1-1.5 hours away from KDR which is security to me here (and I've used AAA 100 miles towing plan twice since I've had the FD) - down there I have Pettit about 2-3 hours away but I always liked dealing with Dave at KDR - always cut me breaks when I needed them and a good guy to deal with.

I'm sad that I won't be able to rip off 0-100 in less than 9 seconds in whatever car I get but I want to simplify my life and parting with the FD is step 1

Hey Zerobanger, I can actually say that racing with this FD, well you know what I'm going to say........

Barry is living in Florida now, his FD went to a road racer in upstate NY (he was on the forum, don't recall the name).

This is old news.
