ID I'm in love with my new car

Am I crazy? My girlfriend is going to be jealous soon.

I just bought a 93 FD touring. I've admired this car for a long time, and I finally made the plunge. I'm sure I don't know what I'm getting into, but I get excited every time I look at my new car. This car is beautiful, and way faster than anything that I have ever driven.

My new baby is all original and has 60K miles. I'm not going to get into any serious mods to start off with. For starters, I just want to make sure it is reliable (That's all relative, I know), and running good.

I'm going to:
- replace the AST
- change the fluids and fuel filter
- get a real working temp gauge
- add a shock tower brace
- get familiar with the car
- enjoy

Am I missing anything that should be done for a new stock car?

You could also replace all of the old vacuum lines with silicone versions. That will be a really good way for you to learn what's under the hood as well. There are plenty of diagrams, and help on this site. Enjoy the car, it's almost impossible not to.

I almost forgot about the downpipe. That was on my list too. I know that helps keep the temps down.

You can see my other project in the background. I'm in for a big change. I'll be going from a carbureted 302 V8 4X4 ranger to the new FD.

Guess I don't know how to post pictures yet. ^^^ Oh well, the links work.

Also, does anyone know where I can get a stock battery cover. Mine's missing, and I've searched a little, but I'm not seeing anything.

Search for Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda. He has the best deals on oem parts. He should be able to get you a battery cover. Welcome to the club man.....and don't let anyone change your mind on the montego blue color!

You are not alone I still find myself staring at my car and thats after 11 years of ownership!

for appearance get yourself an R1 lip, replica feed sideskirts, some eibachs springs and your car will look 3x hotter. They are cheap (money wise) apperarance mods but they make a world of difference on the stance (I wish I would had done mine way sooner)

get a powerfc, it serves multiple purposes at the same time and you won't regret buying it.

Just wait until you fill your car with gas. Your wallet will bleed.

In case you're worried, the FD has a 20gal gas tank.

I HIGHLY recommend the FC thermoswitch. Your fans will come on at a more reasonable temperature. Here's an article about the FD cooling fan system:

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/why-engine-so-damn-complicated-part-3-cooling-fan-controls-876767/

also if you want to learn more about your car and all the crap under the hood, try reading these:

this first article explains how the sequential turbos work and why the various actuators etc are there.

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/why-engine-so-damn-complicated-part-1-sequential-turbos-demystified-841821/ . focus on the first two or three posts

and this one explains the emissions control systems:

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/why-engine-so-damn-complicated-part-2-emissions-controls-841963/

I recommend getting AI and a fan on the intercooler if you ever drive in traffic.

I don't want to start anything here, but you don't need AI on a stock car. The OP has the right idea.

I may still have the stock battery cover in my garage. I won't be home till Friday, but I can look when I get back and send you a pic if I do.

One item I didn't see anyone mention was to replace the fuel filter. Should be changed every 30k. Very cheap insurance.

I can see why you disagree. The OP should do the research on his own though. When I had my car stock like the OP did, I managed to get AIT temps pretty high at times and let me tell you, I wish I had AI at those times. In the end, its actually cheaper than a new SMIC and will drop temps lower even though you have to refill the resevoir.

Thanks guys.

I can already see that this website is going to be a problem. I am spending way too much time researching on here.
