I've always heard the 8 transmission was weaker than the fd one, but maybe that was the diff... Good luck on your project! Keep us updated!

$5000 difference.

also i was looking at the gears in the rx8 and the only difference is between 4 & 5 in our rx7 5 speed all they did was placed a gear between 4th % 5th if you look in comparison with the rx7 & rx8 tranny's

yes, the MKIV Getrag will work in the car. You need an adapter though. it will be less than 5K but still pretty damn expensive.

I remember seeing a long time ago an aftermarket 6speed tranny for an FC made by HKS... not sure if they had one for the FD or not...

Good luck on the project!

There's a thread on here somewhere where a guy put a t-56 from a GTO in an fd. Sounded like it worked out pretty well.

If you're gonna put a 6spd into the FD (which i dont know why since our gears are well enough for top speed), do the getrag from the supra.

Those trannys can hold ALOT of power.

Look up saad saad or ryan woon and you will see. I think they are well over 1000rwhp on the factory 6spd.

EDIT: here, i did the quick search for you

Do what I am doing. Put a Turbo 350 in her or a G-Force clutchless tranny. Who said you need 6 gears. That will just slow you down with all of that extra shifting.

That makes two of us. I doubt that tranny lasts more than a couple strong pulls.

My big question is why do you want a 6spd in the car so bad to begin with?

/\ dunno just my prefrence. i did a top speed run with my car on the 478 and i ran out of gears/rpm at 191mph @ 8400rpm! and the 5th gear takes forever to get up to speed. 3-4 it pulls but in 5th the car really doesnt start to pull until you hit 170. I know im crazy for going that fast but i love high speed.

i have pictures of the Power fc commander but as i told everyone the speedometer said one thing and the power fc said another!

I was referring to your high speed runs on a public highway, not your trans swap plans.
