ignition problem - my thread got deleted thanks
Hello fellas. As I am almost finished with my project I goofed. There is an extra wire on my crane h1-6 ignition amp that is not used called the magnetic pickup I believe. Well I accidentally touched that wire to my positive terminal coming out of the fuse box (yes I know I need to cover it). This caused just a tiny spark and a little bit of white smoke came out of the amp for about 5 seconds. So I started up the car and immediately it took longer to start and the vacuum went to 10 instead of 15. So I got a new of the same exact amp. I wired it up and went to start the car. It still doesnt start as nice as before but now the vacuum is back to normal. The problem is the starting takes about 2.5 seconds and the main problem now is that as soon as I get over 4000-4200-4500 Im having really bad misfires. I believe it is misfires and not running rich. It happens about half of the time under part throttle and when I go full throttle I dont feel it. Remember I have only 1300 on the engine and its untuned so I'm trying to take it easy.
So my amp is hooked up to the leading coil though the coil harness. What could the sudden surge have damaged? I ohmed out my leading coil against another one and it is the same.
I am going to get the car tuned soon and I want this taken care of. My coils have 53k miles on them and I have a new amp and new plug wires and plugs.

has anyone had any similar experiences or understand enough about electronics to guess what is wrong?
Here are my real mods maybe it will help out

Hooray For Boobies!!!
Have your checked you igniters? The one to the leading coil could have gone out (I don't know just a guess).
I assume you have spark from you leading coils. Have you checked? (I know my ride will run and idel farily well off of just the trailing plugs) Just a thought.
Also what were your ohm values from both your coils? Do they match what the manual states?
http://www.rx7city.com/93manual.htm
It sounded as if the amp was not/or still is not working, but it is new/replaced after you saw smoke. So it is hard to blame that again.
Not sure if I am much help.
Good Luck

there is only 1 ignitor as far as I know. I did switch those out and didnt notice any difference in starting...I didnt drive around though with the new ignitor
we did put a timing light on my wires at idle and everything was firing. Could I just have messed up the coil or ignitor a little bit where it cant keep up at that rpm and it would make it a little hard to start?
my mechanic tested the ohms on one coil he had and mine and they were identical so we assume they are fine. Im not sure the numbers were even close to the book because of all the settings on the multimeter that can affect that
oh the car ran fine with the amp before it made a lot of hp on the old engine setup so its def. hooked up right and was working fine until I gave power to that wire!
thanks for your help maybe someone else can continue.

Twin Turbo LSX
It's definately a problem with the PFS Boost Gauge, Pettit Aluminum AST, Relocated Battery, M2 Trailing Links, Gotham Racing SS Braided OMP lines, Koyo Radiator, Engine Tq Brace, or polishing.
