If your sells your FD today...

Would you net a profit or end up with a lost?

As for me I think will end up with a profit of $5000.00 at least...

Loss >$10k. Unless I part out the mods one by one and put her back bone stock, then it would be a loss around 5k.

too me...its always a loss. Money isnt the issue.

Its the time.

the time you spend at work saving money for the parts and fixes
and the time you spend working on the car fixing and putting on stuff

even if i sold it for 10k more then what it bought it for. i think id still be at a loss.

Where did my last 3 years go? how do you pay for that.

unless someone walked up to you and put 50k+ down on the table for ur car. then okay. id buy another one and start over and do everything right the first time =P

I enjoy spending my time working on the FD, so it doesn't bother me that much.

If my FD sold today I would be at a huge loss (but I knew that going into it and I bought the car for fun) and if I were to tally it up I think I might cry.

The car is worth every penny when running correctly. The white knuckles and the large smile tells me so.

Nobody sells a 13 year old used car and makes money on the deal unless the car was given to them free of charge in the first place!

Regardless of how important the rotor heads feel these cars are they are not collector cars. They get cheaper every week.

The way I see it, I would lose a great deal of money if I sold my FD. On the other hand, anyone who buys a late model car (less the 2 years old) and sells it after a year, is going to lose A TON of money too. Cars are terrible investments. Just make sure you buy the one you want, and have fun with it!

obviously people who have owned an FD for a long time will be at a loss if you are calculating by bluebook value. im a 6+ year owner now and was my daily driver the first 3. sure ive saved lots of money doing work myself, but engines turbos and trannies arent cheap. then upgrades....yeah thats a whole nother story. PhatManBUD makes a good point about time, its not that i dont enjoy the work, its the fact i could be spending my time making more money to put into the car hehe.

if i was in it for the value, i would be quite disapointed by this time

I think I have around $24K of total investment my FD. I didn't buy it as an investment... I bought it to have fun with (you know regain my youth, etc., etc.). The way I look at it, I could still invest another 10-15k in it and wipe the road with most cars out there costing 2 to 3x times as much and still have a car with timeless looks.

Agreed. Not to sound like a dick, but I think the thread is pretty dumb. If there were 100 accurate posts, I would guarantee that at least 95% of those who posted would post a major loss. (and that is a really conservative prediction) To add to that 95%, I would be at a major loss.

I think i could probably sell mine for around 16k so i guess i would make about a 2-3k profit since i bought it for 11k and put about 2.5k mods and repairs.

Count me as one of those who would pucker up and take one on the chin if I were to add up the money spent in mods and what I could get for the car. I don't care though, I just spent about $700 on Mazdapartscheap.com for some new interior piece to freshen it up. Had it since 94 and I think last time I added it up, it was up around $25K in mods, but that's not factoring in the fast I've sold some of my parts as well (sold PFS PMC to get M2 stage 3, sold it to get the PFC now, etc)..that's just total for everything that has been on the car. Considering that I tend to sell thing pretty low to help other 7 owners out and I'm take one for the team.

Is that $5k profit based on the assumption that you will sell your car for $20k or more? Many FD owners overestimate the market value of their car by a significant margin (usually by $5k, but often by up to $15k).

What are the miles on you car and at what price do you expect to sell at?

Vegas FD hit the nail on the head, Not investments but entertainment. Whats your return on $20 for movie tickets, another $15 for popcorn and sodas, drinks at the tavern afterwards with the hot chick, first date?.........uh...............nevermind.

I am not understanding how anyone is making a profit, I agree with the previous statement that 99% would be at a loss. I worked for 2 years when I turned 15 to save for my 7, paid 13,000 for it. As I am not fortunate to have parents to buy me everything, than i spent almost 6,000 in audio, all installed by myself, not to mention over 2500 for body parts and a couple thousand for engine work and inteior compliments. Anyways the good thing with buying rare parts off of ebay, is that I sold most of them for a lot more money. For example, my pioneer odr car audio system is extremly rare and could fetch a couple thousand, I got it for $900 from a friend in europe. Anyways, the expression you pay to play here is valid, plus its not bad having the nicest car in school that mommy and daddy did not buy!

Ha, I know what you mean about being proud of what you have bought and deserve. Last year before I graduated everybody used to think that my parents bought my car...Yea right, more like saving since I was 14. It gives you a lot more satisfaction to know that its all yours!! Then doing all the work on it yourself gives you a little added bonus in the ego department too.

Good for you , this car should belong to a guy that works for, and can appreciate what he has.

I'll say one thing. That car has the best panel fit around the nose/hood/headlights that I have ever seen!
