Nissan 350Z or Honda S2000.

Both have 2 doors, great handling, and can be turned into great track cars very easily.

I would have to go far higher in price to adequately replace it, like Vette C6 or Porsche Cayman (or the aforementioned Lotus).

To REPLACE the FD? Ie something that would be up to par IMO? That would leave me w/ very VERY few options. Skyline R34 GTR VSpec II (or Z-Tune if I could afford one), or the '07 911 Turbo w/ Sport Chrono Package aka VVT technology (or the GT2 if I could afford one).

Anything less (Supra, SL 65 AMG, etc) is nothing more than a fancy daily driver

I'd buy another MR2 Turbo... I've got a 92' turbo right now in addition to my FD, but it is amazing how well it handles and performs. Plus it gets great gas mileage... when your not in the boost.

16-18K? Man, if I wanted to replace the FD with something just as fun, I'd have to get something like...I dunno...a 911 GT3RS. I guess you could replace it with an S2000, those are pretty fun to drive and are fairly reliable. If I was getting a daily driver for that price, I'd just get a Saab 9-3 Viggen and use the rest of the money to give it some nice suspension upgrades, and bump it up to 310hp. I'm weird like that, though.

I have been pondering this for a few years now. My choices for a replacement "for what I need" would be (in no particular order):

* Mid 90's NSX
* Porsche 993
* Lotus Elise or Exige
* Viper GTS
* Ferrari 355/348

if my 94 is up for sale...$17K (absolutely; positively.

And that is w/o CCWs; PFC; RB DT, etc...

Take a hike if you don't like the price because she aint for sale...

Sorry, just had to say it.

But yeah you guys are right, the interior is sorta plain but hey, it wasnt meant to be an all out sports car like the FD.
I don't remember seeing an FD leather come apart at the stitchings. Seen nuff Supras, Lexus LS, GS, and so on, and so on...

LS1/LT1 FD most likely.

If the kids get into college on a scholarship, 911 GT3 RS . . .

Yeah true but i thought you were referring to bad interior in general which would be funny when the FD interior is not any better. Thats what i was getting at.

Right now I'd go with an '02 M3 or in a couple of years get a Caymen

For what it costs to own, I think I will always have an FD in my driveway. I looked at so many cars before I decided on the 7. 350z, supra, s2000, etc.. I will eventually buy one of those, but I wont give up the 7 to do it. I just dont get the same feeling when I sit in the seat of any other car. If for some crazy reason I had to sell it, I would buy another one as soon as I could.

I highly doubt mine or many other FD's would sell for 30k+ no matter how much you've put into it.

I'd be looking for something that still has the power/kick but also a nice looking car. Doesn't HAVE to be exotic. For example, I would consider an 2003 Cobra (again those are 30k+) or a nice Saleen/Roush Mustang. Yes I know going from an FD to a Mustang is a BIG different but still, in my eyes I like those Mustangs and they do have some power. WS6 Transam's are pretty nice too and also make good power.

I do love the sound of the V8, but then again, these are the types of cars you see around everywhere, but still I find them looking good.

Possibly a BMW (5 series?) , Audi (S4?) , or Mercedes (CLK55?) anything is open to me.

With my Dad just picking up a clean 1996 Porsche 911, I'd love to find a Porsche, but again, those are in the 30k+ range. Only thing in the range would be a Boxster and I wouldn't really consider that a Porsche.

You're complaining about problems that are partially self inflicted and are considering those cars that are more even more expensive to maintain and harder to work on?

get an s2k if your working around that price. or an mr2 turbo as sugested. i dont think a 350z or a supra would be the best replacement, but then again i dont really know what kind of driving you like to do, if you mostly into straight line power i would say save a bit and pick up a supra, while nice clean supras do go for a lot you can find cheaper supras if you take your time and look... also asking price is like 2k above the price you can actually get a car for... im sure you coould get a supra for 22-24k
