If you just got a stock FD Touring... what would you do to it?
Yaaaaaaaaaa!... I'm one of the FD's now! hehe... yub.. I just picked up my 93 red Touring w/ 89k on the engine. 6.9,7.0,6.9 on the first rotor and 7.1,7.3,7.2 on the second also a 10.1-8-9.9 boost pattern.
It has a brand new factory cat and besides that.... it's STOCK
Red w/ black leather interior.
Sorry... they were taken just a bit ago and it's dark.. I'll take better ones tommorow.
I've got a few grand to pop into her so I'm trying to decide the best way to spend it. I know I want to replace the exaust and intake... I'm kinda deciding on the Apexi GT catback and a down pipe (which one?). How about intake?... this is where I'm REALLY hung up...
I live in AZ so it gets hot out here... just so you know.. it's kinda a daily driver/fun car. I'm not looking to make a drag car out of it.
I need to get gauges... what would you suggest? should I get a new radiator and IC? new comp? Toss some ideas out!
I know I'm getting an alarm and thinking of an aftermarket stereo... (I'll decide tommorow) anyone want a boses system?! hehe.

if your weather is s little hot then i would suggest doing all the reliability mods first.
-replace AST with alum. one
-bigger radiator
-since you have a touring another oil cooler
-boost guage
-turbo timer
and as far as proformance goes
-a downpipe
-and a catback
but remember u will need a new ECU if you have 2 or more proformance mods.
congrats on the new FD

First off, it sounds like your engine and turbos are healthy; the compression is a bit on the low side - is that the original engine? I would suggest replacing the car's fluids for starts (oil, diff fluid, gearbox fluid) and the spark plugs and wires. Get in the habit of keeping an eye on the coolant and oil levels.
Reliability upgrades - slightly different from what's been suggested to you already, but this is my take on things:
- Boost and water temp gauges - $120 including pillar-mount, from carparts.com.
- Fan switch mod (www.scuderiaiciriani.com/rx7) - $misc for a switch.
- Downpipe from M2 or Pettit - $300.
- Cold air intake - again M2 or Pettit - $400 or so. At this point, seal off your stock duct so that it feeds only to the intercooler.
- Large radiator (Koyo - $400).
At this point, your car should be well setup for daily use in hot weather. Enjoy it like this - it'll be a nice combination of reliability and moderate power increases. If you get the thirst for more power, or the final nth degree of reliability, come back here and ask.

I'll probally order today the AST, maybe a rad, boost gauge, water temp gauge, and dual piller pod (any suggestions on which one or where?) also a downpipe and that Apexi GT catback.

Well you can see in the signature what I have on my car. I have all of these mods without having an ECU. I would like to get one but that is going to have to wait. But, anyway the car runs good and strong without it as long as I don't go above or beyond 12 psi. I would definitely recommend the reliability mods including DP. A DP is a very good buy for reliability and performance plus the sound is awesome. Good to have another RX-7 owner in the valley.

Might I ask where you got most of your parts? Do you do all the work yourself? I wouldn't mind meeting you and seeing your car I love the FD's and it's great to see anothers to get ideas on parts. Just toss me an e-mail and maby we can get together.

Most of the work I have done myself b/c I like working on it. Some things were already done when I bought it. The car has been out of commission for a month or so b/c I have been waiting to get the Efini y-pipe. But I just received it and I am hoping to install it this weekend and hopefully that will fix my problem.
I am not in any clubs. Some parts I got from local shops and some parts I ordered.

Hey another Arizonan here. I say do anything that will help with the heat and reliability first (i.e. AST, Radiator, Downpipe). I have done all my own work including a rebuild. I took to a dealer, I'm failing emmisions right now (they were a big "0"). I got my gauges (Autometer) at this place on Glendale Ave. prices seemed good compared to most places I saw on the internet. I do have a single gauge pod I'll sell you for cheap.

I would be curious to know what shop that is?
Thanks for the offer but I need to pickup a dual pod. I've got a bundle on my list to get thanks again guys... I'm still trying to decide on an intake setup and a catback.. Was thinking HKS Hiper 3 inch. And maby the Pettit TKT cold air induction... (100 cheeper than the M2)
Big question for you guys... will the M2 OR the TKT work w/ a large IC? I plan on getting a large IC and new comp a bit down the road but want to plan my intake now.
Hey... all you AZ guys... You need to roll down to the car show at Scottsdale Pavillions on the 3rd sat of each month. E-mail me if you want more info or want to get together just for fun
