Yes! You should drop the driveshaft any time the car is towed with the rear wheels on the ground.

Oops, I read it too fast. I thought he said it was an auto. Yeah, manuals can be towed in neutral without disconnecting the shaft.

Is it necessary to disconnect the battery? Would it be better to tow an manual FD with the front end or rear end off the ground? Or does it really matter? Thanks!

Makes sense. I haven't decided whether I'm going to have the FD I just bought, shipped or if I should tow it myself. The car is 900 miles away from me. If I tow it myself, it's a bit cheaper and I'll get it sooner ;-).

Are you getting the tow dolly for free or renting it? It isnt to much more to get a full auto transport.

If you're going that far, get a full trailer, they are not that much more than a tow dolly and are much better/safer to use.

Just disconnect the speedometer cable from the transmission if you use the dolly.

Just spend the money and rent the trailer. Besides it being safer, you will also not have an extra 1,300 miles on just your rear tires.

Sorry, for my ignorance but I'm thinking if you use a four wheel dolly, the tires wont spin. Therefore, it would be safe to transport this way & mileage wont rack up?

Well, I was thinking of using my minivan to tow the car. How much does a four wheel dolly weight? I think the towing limit on the van is 3.5k lbs. I know that's the limit on my hitch.

If you're ignition's off, there's no milage clocking.

Get a trailer. These cars sit pretty low to the ground, I'd hate for you to mess something up on a big bump if you were using a dolly.

tvon,
There isn't a speedo cable on these cars. It's electronic.
