Tis not true, I guess if you turned it upside down and tried to run the engine for awhile it may starve of oil and cause some damage, but it should be ok if the car was crashed/flipped upside down...unless the guy tried to continue driving while upside down.

I bought a wrecked FD, it flipped end over end 3 times and then barrel rolled 250 feet.....I pulled the engine and installed it in another body and it lasted 1 week...all the apex seals on the front rotor were gone. It had 3,000 miles on the engine. Bad luck for me....

^ that looks EXACTLY like the R1 I bought that was flipped at 120mph and ultimately after rolling slid on its roof for 300 feet. I should update with how it looks now...

If the engine is flipped while it's running, it'll starve itself of oil. The original oil pan is not baffled & the oiling system is not a dry sump so you have to be really lucky.

oil starvation in these engines damages parts very rapidly. if you don't shut the engine off within about 5 seconds of the engine being upside down and not getting any oil then the motor is in fact done.

oil starvation issues result in almost no reusable parts also, i wouldn't even pay you for shipping for the core motor.
