Hi all, I was lucky enough to be gifted a pair of stock turbos. They look like they have been sitting for a VERY long time. I was wondering how to tell what vintage they are. With the following photos, you know everything that i know:
N3A1 turbos were the first iteration of the FD twins. Congrats...I don't think I've ever seen a set without cracks in the flange, and I don't seem to see any on those!
Yea, gen 1 and disposable. Missing the actuators, heat sheilds and forward oil return. May be usable but maybe not lol they don't hold much value on their own and compared to the C and G1, are not preferable when needing to swap a bad set. They can go back on whatever shelf they've been sitting on
given the rust on the compressor wheel retaining nuts, they might even have seen water internally and would last about 5 minutes if so without a rebuild. even with a thorough cleaning i don't know if i'd risk running them without going through them. replacing the twins is a bit of a PITA.
Harvest the manifolds for a BNR build. I wouldn't trust running without a rebuild but the manifold is definitely something to keep even if the cores are junk.
ok so sounds like not worth more than the value of a useable turbine housing, which is still something! The blades do turn and don't have notable play the bearings
