Identified Ticking Noise

Ok , another one of those "ticking noise under UIM" stories, but I have traced the noise back to my Primary injectors (they are lower are they not?)
the ticking moves with the RPM , I was thinking , I had the Injectors out a while back, could plugging the loom back to the injectors incorrectly i.e wrong way round, cause such a noise, or would that cause "BOOM!" , It also idles pretty rich but is fine driving .
Also could a bad FPD could be the cause of both the noise and the smell , after all its in the same location?

I had a ticking in my 87 T2 and it was the connection to the Air Control Valve, fixed the wiring and it cleared. I also had a problem with my fuel pump once and I could hear the injectors clicking like that. Did that post mention using Rislone to keep your lifters from ticking??? lifters? QUOTE:

I found this dude talking about his injectors and thought maybe a bad fuel pump wont get enough fuel to the injectors?

Nope, but I know when I replaced mine the noise became louder.

I have to think it has something to do with the pintle caps while the injector is pulsing on and off?

all injectors tick. it is the pintle hitting the seat, and the solenoid inside turning on and off, it has moving parts it will make noise. some are louder than others. sure it was not the iac or anything else?

IAC? whats that?
I do know for a fact that it is deffinatly coming from the Primary rail, I did that stethiscope thing and it was hell loud right on the rail and nowhere else.

If you noticed above i found a quote from a guy saying his injectors ticked loudly because he had the loom plugged into them incorrectly ( round the wrong way),
So my next question would be that if I was to swap around a few injector plugs to test them would here be a chance of engine damage?

All injectors make some noise due to the pintle slamming from the stop to the seat and back. Usually they aren't too noticeable as they are insulated from the fuel rail and head with o-rings and grommets.
One possible cause is the o-ring on the top of the injector that seats into the fuel rail may be getting hard or a have flat spot allowing the end of the injector to touch the inside of it and transmit the sound to the rail. If the injectors and rail are misaligned, that can cause it too.
If the lower seals are hard or allows the pintle cap to touch the head, that can make them louder also.
