Lightbulb idea with aquamist system

has any one ever used rc car fuel in there system reason i would think it would be good

its 25% synthetic 2 stroke oil insted of pre mixing with omp
50 % alchol for the cooling effect
25% nitromethane for added power and higher octane

c16 is $7 a gallon and water is......free. Plus, you use a much much smaller volume of liquid via injection.

The nitromethane is what i wonder about. You might have to tune for that. Pure water or methanol injection will drop you some power but theres no real need to tune for it which is the beauty of rich's setup. He was running just fine without the WI and now hes beyond safe. Which is unheard of in a turbo rotary. Just dont run out!

A "nitro-burning" engine and a "top fuel" engine are the same thing -- engines designed to burn nitromethane rather than gasoline. Gasoline is a hydrocarbon, and the common chemical formula for gasoline is C8H18. Nitromethane has the formula CH3NO2. Nitromethane is a little like gasoline that has been pre-mixed with nitrous oxide. The fuel comes with its own oxygen atoms to help it burn. from how stuff works .com

according to this its like adding more fuel + oxygen i dont see how it could hert things too much

An interesting thing about nitromethane is that it does not burn as quickly as gasoline. In fact, there is not enough time to burn all of the nitromethane between when the spark plug fires and when the exhaust valve opens. So the engine is pumping still-burning nitromethane into the exhaust pipe. That's why you see flames shooting out of the exhaust of a drag-racing car.

Sweet. Dont run a catalyzer on nitromethane: check. I bet the egt's would be enormous.

It sounds great but it doesnt sound any better than water or methanol except for the added premix. But you can do that with a cheap bottle of premix every gas fill up(yamalube is the best although decidedly un-cheap.). Speaking of yamalube. I use that in my 800cc 2 stroke jet ski which uses an OMP system basically identical to ours in the FD. When I put anything but yamalube in there it smokes and runs like crap. Kindof like if you were to fully premix a rotary with no catalyzer. Im gonna try some yamalube in my rotary and if it dont break or smoke I'm sold.

I think he's referring to me, pics of my setup can be found here:

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ght=pics+water

the write up is found at the beginning of the thread:

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ght=pics+water

The setup is nothing special, basically an aquamist 1s system that comes online at 9 psi. You don't need to retune for the water injection. I have it as an extra safety precaution, so I can run 17-18 psi on pump gas without having to worry about pulling my motor out prematurely .

I really dont see why any FD running more than 350ish rwhp shouldn't have a water injection system installed. It's pretty damn cheap by 'FD mod' standards. These cars pop motors easily enough, and it goes without saying the cost is excessive when it does happen. I have rebuilt my motor before for as little as $300 in less than 48 hours (detonated with less than 2k on a rebuild years ago) but that doesnt mean I like pulling the motor, tearing it down, etc. I'd rather be driving .

Rich
