IC-7 With 97 FD Alternator excite problem

I’m trying to install my ic 7, I’ve got everything working apart from the alternator charge light as I removed the factory dash. So the alternator isn’t charging(10.3v while idle)

I’ve wired a bulb (iradecent) from pin 4I (charge) on the factory dash plug and the other side to a ground. But the light does not illuminate when I turn the key(engine off).

am I missing something?

Whenever the factory FD instrument cluster is replaced with a generic aftermarket dash like Haltech IC-7, the following important functions (built-in the factory cluster) are lost:

(a) Initial alternator exciter coil current - on a generic aftermarket dash, this requires a replacement lamp or equivalent resistor connected to a switched POSITIVE (not to ground). The current flowing through this lamp is in fact the coil exciter current (until the alternator gets up to speed).
(b) Vehicle speed signal to ECU - the factory circuitry converts the sensor voltage to a proper digital square wave. So without the factory cluster, your ECU will no longer receive the digital vehicle speed signal, which is used for various functions
(c) Trip counter and odometer will also no longer be available - in most countries, a car with a missing odometer will fail MOT / VRT test
(d) The coolant level alarm circuit will no longer function - the factory instrument cluster generates a small ac signal with which it can detect presence of coolant at the sensor. This important alarm signal will no longer work.
(e) MIL switch function no longer enabled.
(f) Other warning lights will no longer function, depending on dash model.

awesome, thanks for your reply. Apologies, the car has an aftermarket ecu and is single turbo converted 800hp Bridgeport. I will try your solution and hopefully get somewhere. Appreciate your reply.
