I want to see flames but i don't want to get a mid-pipe because the unstability of boost spiking. I have a profec b but i heard its still real hard to control with a mid-pipe. Could I get a high flow cat and what else would I need to shoot the flamage.
Thanks

Hey don't flame me about wanting to see flames shoot out my exhuast just for looks. You know you want that too!

I dont think you can do that any other way than by using a mid pipe.
Sorry

You can't really do it with a cat in there, period. Now I don't know what exactly makes a high-flow cat a high-flow cat, but I'm still guessing that all exhaust passes through and is screened in the cat. This would prevent flames from passing through. If it would allow flames, it would be very minimal ... but since I don't know the details of high-flow cats I don't want to rule it out.

So you can be ghetto and do the sparkplug thing behind the cat and see if you can ignite the exhaust after the cat.

I shoot some wicked flames. Even shifting moderately at 4-5,000 RPMs it can throw out a decent flame. The flames have brought me fame in my city har har

Anyways this is my setup, its relatively cheap:
Intake
Full 3" exhaust with Apexi N1 single (good luck on flames with a cat)
G-Force ECU, which is programmed fairly rich
street port

I have other mods but i doubt they're related to shooting flames.
Basically a full exhaust and a rich computer will do the trick everytime. It's better to be rich than lean in an RX-7. BE SURE you at least have a boost controller if you install a midpipe.... O yea, and be ready to wear ear-plugs

You can have massive flames shooting out the back for under 10$

Simply drill a small hole towards the end of your exhaust and insert a spark plug, wire it to a switch.

Flip the switch and watch the flames shoot out and cook the car behind you.

I haven't tried this yet, but have read a few places on the theory of getting to work.

you have an rx-7!!!!! do not do the ghetto spark plug thing, that is for incompetent cars like your moms daewoo. you do not have a lame car, you can shoot flames easily if you want to.

if you want to shoot flames, just get full exhaust and run a richer ecu, then rev it high and POP! you have a flame.

oh yeah, and you cant do it with a catalyst in place because it cockblocks your flames.

have fun.

I know a guy in knoxville that has the spark plug thing hooked up in his supra. It shoots some hella flames. Flames way bigger then any car can shoot running rich. I've heard he does it when ppl cut him off....he then proceeds to pull in the next lane a little ahead of them, flip the switch, and scare the other driver to death.......the other driver then pulls over and checks their shorts. I wouldn't do it to my car, but I do think it looks cool......plus it's completely controlled. Just my $.02

Not that I'm gonna do this but I was just wondering, how do you "wire up" a spark plug? You can't just slap on a wire, can you?

The plug will be grounded on the exhaust. So you just need to run a wire through a switch to 12 volts.

you also forgot to mention that you need a coil as well, the old muscle car guys use to do this trick except that they could do it easier cuz they actually sell kits for this application. only thing is that their kits are only designed for carbarated (spelling is off) cars. it does pretty much what the motorcycle guys do, it cuts the ignition and then turns it back on, the longer it is shut off, the bigger the flames, this cant work on efi cars though. i was wondering if anyone had a superafc out there and actually tried doing this? oh well good luck

You need to remove the cats. If you are worried about controlling boost put a restrictor plate before the midpipe. Most people say that a plate with a 2.5 inch circular opening is enough to keep boost under control. Do a search on the forum to see how people have don this and what material they used. You are gonna have to make it yourself, but it will probably run you about two bucks plus new gaskets (which should come with the midpipe).

Later,
Scott
